Only my driveway. Period. (But, I know how that works out when a storm blows through!) I am considering it in anticipation of real estate purchase next spring. There is a driveway of almost 1/4 mile that would need daily attention during the winter months!!
The only plows I have ever owned have been western. Last one was in the mid 2000s. Since then, western has priced themselves out of the market........IMO. It looks like I can get a boss V-blade for what a western straight blade would cost. The shop is calling back with the numbers today.
I cant offer specifics on the two brands you mentioned. But I have a lot of time behind a plow both commercially and on my own driveway, which is about 1000 ft. long and 13' wide. I'm pushing a well used 8' Meyers PU plow that was converted to be used on my QA loader. I think I paid $350 for it not including conversion parts. I prefer the lighter plow as it doesn't put as much stress on the loader arms. I've plowed storms at the end where it was 15" of wet snow in one go. Never had any issues, over the past couple of years. Trucks are faster and always have cabs, but I'm able to pile banks and push the tops of the banks back with the tractor. I guess my point is both would serve you fine for the intended use. May want to even look into used plows and save some money for another toy.
Good used plows a very rare here. Few and far between. I have even used the "searchtempest" feature for craigslist with no luck.
There are quite a few Boss plows on FB Marketplace, in the UP . Some as cheap as $1,900. Most closer to the 3k mark. Also other brands for less $$$
Split v boss plows do not hold up well, here in the mountains, rough kinda gravel road, berms and rocks along the sides, edges. But for most other uses,V's are great. One thing to remember, most of the newer plows have the "power pack" mounted further out front.this is because of insurance and federal regulations, having nothing sticking past the bumper when plow is removed.BUT this moves the weight further away, when you do this, the load on the front suspension is many times higher,so you stand a good chance of having to upgrade your front suspension. In some ways, older plows are better for some users. For low maintenance,a straight blade is probably the best, unless you are doing nice paved flat parking lots.Straight blades just take longer to plow.
I’m not on Facebook either. Never have been, but you can still go onto Marketplace to view items for sale. It’s basically a 10x better version of Craigslist
Craiglist is all but dead...I heard the people that own it now aren't willing to put any money into it to update things...seems odd. I think one of the things that really hurt them was when they started charging private owners to list automotive ads...
Craigslist sucks. FB Marketplace has much more stuff, better priced, less scams, less people looking for something for nothing, etc. Plus the ads are linked to real people’s Facebook account. I hardly ever go on CL other than the occasional free section wood grab, or to have a laugh reading ads in the wanted section. As mentioned by Jrider, be prepared some some real creeps though.
Wow! I checked it out and there are a buttload of plows on there. The ones I found that were reasonably close were either junk and used up or great shape and just about new price. I'll probably get a new one but once again, thanks and I'll used that site for other searches!
We watched that the other week. Very interesting. Also that's one reason why I don't post much or have much of a presence on FB. Google has it's own issues too, but FB is really bad.
Looks like its going to be the Boss HTX 7'6" straight blade setup. Heated LED lights, valance trim kit, leveling kit (for truck) and alignment, and install. You need the heated LED lights as the LED lights by themselves do not melt snow/ice buildup on the plow lights
