We've brought this up over the years. This site would need a full overhaul too so that, and then do we really want things like downvotes? I don't think so. That's not what this site is founded on.
A down vote would let someone know they probably said something stupid, whereas now you have to post a reply, then get accused of attacking someone. It is much more subtle.
We'll see what the future brings and if the new format has those or not. But I agree it's less confrontational nudge, except people abuse the thumbs up/down etc. on other forums too. We'll see. There just BETTER be a heart emojie on the next one lol (Horkn & savemoney ) lol
Doesn’t that already happen when an unpopular comment doesn’t get any likes? I agree with Tom I think downvotes on this site are a bad idea.
I really appreciate how well this site works and how well it’s supported by moderators. That said, I’d love a variety of reactions instead of just “like”. Heart, laughing, +1, and maybe one that shows an open-mouth not-positive response (could be perceived as downvote but also maybe just surprise). NextDoor uses this and it works well. I understand that this would take an overhaul—maybe site mods could ask for a raise? I agree that downvotes would be too harsh for this site. Anyway, thanks to the mods for their work.
+1 Or X2 These are some of the available emoji’s that probably cover all requested or stated wants/expressions. Many times folks just don’t use them. Maybe it takes too much time? Maybe some people think emoji’s are childish? I don’t know, but they communicate a lot w/out typing the words. Consequently, if one hovers over any emoji on PC (not sure how to on a phone/tablet or iPad) the keyboard shortcut and “name/meaning” of that emoji is displayed…
In my opinion, if everyone replied and inserted an emoji then the thread gets too long. I’m referring to expanding the Like button to offer 2-3 more options. Lots of social sites do this…LinkedIn is another one that comes to mind.
Yep, totally makes sense. But then again, the way some folks post on here at all times of day and with more than 10+ pics attached per post or a whole screen of text… the length of a thread almost becomes superfluous. But I do understand your point, if nothing more than the convenience of “one click” participation.
I for one see no need for a like or dislike option at all. We are all adults here. I don't think anyone needs their ego propped up from a like on a post. I also believe that if someones post is off-putting to others they will just say so. I do participate in the liking a post ordeal here only because it's part of the social norm but I definitely wouldn't miss it. I find the whole idea kinda silly. Not the OPs idea, the whole like / dislike features forums use.
