The city took down a massive silver maple near my house. My wife asked the crew to set some aside. This is what I got. Wood that was previously here is now in the garage.
Yeah, the rounds were 20" across so I was able to split them pretty strategically to get squarer pieces for the ends. Usually, I'm just whacking away with the maul. Did it a bit slower this time.
Oh she knows to give me a call at work if she sees the tree crews coming to the neighbourhood. We have a few ash trees I expect will be taken down eventually.
Nice looking pile there, sir. Good on the Mrs for jumping in the opportunity. I am working up some silver maple here as well, and like you am able to get quite a few nice square or slab pieces to make a (hopefully) sturdy stack with, even though it was a big old yard tree.
