True... Keep in mind I live in the megalopolis where we can barely squeeze a sheet of paper in-between houses, so 23 acres feels a little more spacious where I'm from ;)

This is the easiest splitting wood I’ve ever had, hands down. I saved a couple of the “larger” logs for milling. Hopefully I can come across some decent sized stuff next time. Of course, the obligatory thing to do when processing a new species is to perform the sniff test, and I like the smell of black walnut  In a weird way it reminds me of fresh cut apple heartwood for some reason.

I was amazed at how easy the stuff splits myself. I was halving 20" rounds with ease. I like the smell myself. Smells like iodine IMO

Wow, you completely lost me comparing it to apple. o_O I’d say apple is sweet and walnut would be savory.  I do love the smell of both though.

I have always equated walnut to smelling like watermelon rind. I've never done a side by side comparison, but for some reason that's what my mind goes to....

I’m burning some of this black walnut right now, and I can see why it’s one of your favorites :handshake: It does throw some nice flames and burn well. No heaps of charcoal left behind either, which is a huge bonus in my book.

It DOES make nice pistol grips too
I saved quite a bit for woodworking stock.
