Kid you not when i was a 13 he was 83. grandmother called said gramps was drunk.. My dads response was i will be right over cause you never see dad drunk! We got there and called the Dr. he was having a stroke. Slurring his words, stumbling etc. etc. Medics came right over and did a strength test. I saw gramps sitting in a recliner doing a strength test. curl his right arm up lift 180 lb doctor right off his feet during a stroke!:bug:.. Dad said oh he was a farmer.. Gramps didnt use tractors land was too steep, did it all by hand and horses. I will never be that tough!

I have 6 or or more wedges, and I too have played the "how many wedges can I bury in this knarly ol' split" game. Mostly Elm, it's eats wedges and doesn't wanna give them back.:headbang:For more than 30 years I split by hand, now the hydraulics do the work.

No elm here, fortunately. Never had to deal with the stuff. Hopefully, I won't ever.

It's a good burning wood that is everywhere around here and free, so I take it when I can get. It's a lot easier to handle with the hydro, so I don't mind. It's probably 10 to 15% of my stacks some years.
