The old guy in the pic has a sore back....by the way he is leaning forward a bit. Yeah, ask me how I know....

Your pic shows a good strong back! (So far)

I had a spell in my early 30s where my,back had some big problems from an accident. It feels better now than it has in years, partly to my memory foam top on our mattress. Same with my shoulder. I had an accident at the beach in Nags Head, NC 4 years ago and major problems with my left shoulder, lately it's been feeling great again....I've even been benching almost 300lbs again and feeling great!

I had decent luck with anchor seal. Coated both sides and left outside on a pallet for the first two years.
There is polyethylene glycol Wich is supposed to be better for cookies. A serious wood stabilizer from what I've seen, Which I will be using if I do it again.

I'd be worried with attaching boards as the wood shrank it would make it crack.

I cut my cookie with several extra inches for (to try and mill out)checking and splitting. Then used a "router sled" to level and thickness it.
This sugar maple I did this summer is 53 at it's widest

One of those "cookies" sure would make a purdy top for a coffee table.
