I did a lot of different things this year. Number One was buying nothing but the best pellets out there. I was sitting on a couple of tons of Sets from the previous year and instead of buying box store $269/ton (Chows and FSU) I grabbed a couple of tons of Blazers @ $289/ton. Always have burning the worst pellets in my stash, in the early fall and saved the "good" stuff until we got down in the low 20's and teens. In using the "good stuff", I have found it to last longer on a medium or low setting (Castille) and superior in overall heat output to the box store faire. Case in point: I set up a wi-fi thermostat in our loft, above the garage that is outfitted with its own Castille. Burning Green Team, to cover a 13 degree delta (43 - 56F) it took about 2.5 hours. Using Sets, I covered it in an hour and a half. I am going to spreadsheet pellets, deltas, indoor & outdoor temps, pounds of pellets used and cost to determine the value of burning a true premium brand vs. something else. Of course, stoves and area and temps are different, but mine are constant so I should get some interesting data our of the exercise. More to come.
Just loaded my first bag of blazers. Still got half a ton of spruce pointe a quater ton of orford softwoods one and a half tons of oakie golds. And 2 tons of blazers. Going to work on the orfords and oakies next gonna try to save the blazers unless we stay cold.
Some corn mixed with whatever pellets in hopper, LG's at this moment. Cleaning up the pellets that's gathered all over the place.
Just loaded some turmans. Long pellets. Decent heat. Hoping I dont get any auger jams burning these pencils.
prolly burn 2 bags today. turned the fan to max last night, and the feed to 3.5. 65 degrees in the bedroom this morning.... perfect!!!!! i'll continue the EB syp as a test run. so far, so good
Burning O'Malleys in the Harman and white oak in the VC, wind is howling!!!!! Need to get ready for this ensuing NorEaster, headed to the packy.........have plenty of pellets and wood, need to stock up on on other important items.....
On our local station, the weather guy said there is a 'possibility' that we 'may' miss at least the biggest part of it... You southern New Englanders may not... Still early to really tell, imo. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if I didn't have to start the snowblower again this year...... Dan
