So I’m beginning to bring some wood to store underneath my deck, which has I got a system so that things stored underneath will be dry. I remember when the pressure treated lumber was delivered, I remember it being or at least feeling quite heavy. Is pressure treated wood typically seasoned before it is used? I’d love to be able to store some wood underneath the deck, but not at the risk of having a past problem impact the deck. That thought hit me about 15 minutes into the process, as you can see.Let me know what you guys think, thanks in advance.
Pressure treated is often shipped wet. Definitely not seasoned. It typically shrinks once exposed to the sun for a few months and gets lighter in color and lighter in weight. I think your wood will be fine. I’d leave a good 12” between the bottom of the floor joists and the top of the stack for good airflow.
Does water drip through the deck and onto the gravel? I know its the North side of your house so the dampness may not be good. When i owned my own hose it had a one story deck and i built an "upside down" roof to shed rain water under the deck using polycarbonate sheets PT wood is soaked when shipped and easier to fabricate when so. It does shrink
It appears he installed or had installed a waterproof system that goes in between the floor joists. Like a plastic panel that clips in on side tracks and pitches slightly towards the outside end of the deck. Sometimes they even go into a gutter and rain barrel.
You’re right Brad, it is the north side of house. We had deck turn down and new one built. We had the gutter system put underneath so things can be stored under deck. Any moisture underneath would be very minimal. I chickened out tonight and brought the wood to another holding area for winter use. Wanted to see people’s replies. BTW, new neighbors seem good so far
Moved in with her ten years ago and rented since. Couldnt refi as credit went South. Besides more free time to hoard wood...life is good!
