I've thought about it, but well to get a general idea where stuff is at, I'll just measure the ends and middles. I did go down in basement yesterday and did a few dozen pieces throughout the wood pile, just to get an idea of where things were. Everything except the red oak I just got down, was 10% or below. You'd have an occasional piece that might be a little higher, but if you probe in a different spot, you'd get a different reading. Next I'll just have to wait till I get ready to burn the red oak and remeasure, see how things compare. As I burn what I have, I'll split some pieces open and see what they read to get a good comparison.
Let us know what you get on those splits, you will see a huge difference compared to checking the ends.
