I think that most people keep their lights off at night, also.
Also, I'm thinking that most everyone has the same lights on schedule as you.

Stopped in a second hand store this past weekend and you would not believe the pile of CFLs that were is a tub for sale!!! They were all un-packaged, so it would be safe to assume they were used, but when they first came out, they were great....till the new kid on the block showed up shortly after-LED.

For many years Michigan did not use DST and we got along just fine. In fact it was brought before the voting population more than once and was voted down each time by a very wide margin. The last time it was voted down (in the 70's if I remember right) our politicians did what they are best at; the figured they knew better what the people wanted so went ahead and changed it anyway. No messing around with that old idea that they are representing the people.

I do remember one place I worked for many years and when the time changed, they went half way and moved work time up 1/2 hour. Nobody seemed to mind. As was stated, people will work it out no matter what but most people just do not like the changing of times twice per year and especially so since they've lengthened out the time. That is, it starts earlier and stays longer than it used to. DST is not so good in winter because it gets light so darned late in the morning. Most folks complain when their kids have to go to school in the dark. But then, it seems I was in the dark most of my school years...

Should make for a very short work day in the winter, no? But for the summer, e-gads what a long work day!

I think if everyone troubled by a change in wake time stopped and realized it's designed around labor and less so saving energy they'd realize the benefits.
we'd start gaining so much time in the spring during the morning hours and lose the afternoon/evening productivity hours of daylight.
W/O DST the sun would rise around 4-430am(late June) in the summer.....who's convincing their employees to get out of bed then?
keep early risers on a 5-6am work arrival and maximize the natural light...even if its day break here at ~0638 under the current DST change

your body naturally wakes up with sunlite so it would be an easy adjustment.

EX: when I left here last week it was dark in the morning, I wanted to sleep
Went down to USVI sunrise 6am popped right up when the sun came in the window

Already have that time for sunrise in June here. Just that little bit of difference from your location to mine....thats all it takes!

Been more than one morning sitting on the dock at the cottage watching the sunrise with a steaming cup of coffee at 4:30. With sunglasses!

What you also must keep in mind on the sunrise and sunset times is that is varies a lot between the eastern and western part of the time zone. We are always amazed at the difference in sunrise/sunset when we go east, like when we have gone out to NH at the Woodstock plant. The difference in the sunrise/sunset times is close to an hour. That is because we are at the western side of the time zone and they are on the eastern side.

With this in mind, it is easy to see why those out east line DST more than those further west. Like I stated in an earlier post, when we lived really close to the line between Eastern and Central time, it could get interesting. Still, it caused us not discomfort, but interesting nontheless.

Totally understand the variation having lived in Maine eastern seaboard, NC far west of EST and now AL on the eastern side of CST.
June time frame Maine sun rose ~0430, NC ~0500, here ~0450 by far sunset when in NC was the latest close to 9-930pm

I'm indifferent on the topic, from a just me stand point. There's literally 10 days in the year on a work day that I see the sun when I get in the shower before work, 5 days either side of June 21.
This time of year, its mud season and there's not a lot I can do with the extra hour of daylight. That'll be different in a few weeks.
I'll give a middle child opinion. Shift the clock changes one month forward. Otherwise I agree with TurboDiesel.

Personal opinion get rid of it... It won't mess up anything and has been linked to surges in accidents, health problems etc.. There is good evidence to support doing away with it not to mention there are plenty of places who already do not observe DST.

The fact is the entire reason it was started in ww1 ( then repealed ) and then the 1940,s was to give farmers more daylight for crop production during WW2. ( not repealed ) The thought being it would increase the crop yield but it hasn't and never did. Just another burocratic idiocy. ( that's about as close to politics as I'll get )

Wow tell me how I really feel^^^

I feel the same way. I like DST much better. Winter is so long. It isn't until the daylight gets back to 5 pm that I start feeling better. We get dark about 3:50 pm in late December. So dark, just miserable. DST brings some light back into life.

And we are on the Eastern time zone like you but in winter we get dark around 5:30. That's the difference between the eastern part and the western part so you can see why there can be such differences of opinion on the time changes.
