Should I trade for an 066?

Unless I get into milling at some point, my mongrel 044/440 feels like plenty of saw for my purposes. I sold my 064 some time ago and I'm even planning to sell the 7900, so even if I'd gotten the 066 I doubt that I would have kept it for long. It's probably smarter to just borrow one for 15 minutes at a G2G sometime, give it back and be done.

I know this doesn't help, but I sure did like the 660 I got to run while on a tree crew. I'd like one some day :D

Now why would you sell a Dolmar 7900 and keep an 044? That just doesn't make sense to me. :loco:

... That flat-top 066 should be pretty similar to your old 064, maybe a bit more power but also a little heavier. Now you know. :p

Heh. No practical reason there, really. I could say the 044 is lighter and a little more compact, but the more significant reason is that the Dolkita is almost like new, and its reliability cuts into its entertainment value. The mongrel 044/440 is plenty of saw for me, and ironing out its remaining quirky issues gives me something to do when my severely space-constrained firewood stacks are already full.

Aww, that was years ago, you've been dining out on that for too long. What screaming deals have you gotten lately?

I'm done buying saws... Didn't even call on a nice $200 2171 or a 562xp that was cheap.

I'm not that far along but I'm slowing down, aiming to sell off several nice ones and focus on the remaining projects without acquiring too many more along the way. I'm way over-equipped.

I know I've got a few that I need to get finished and gone... 038 mag 2 full wrap, 064 with a 66 topend, 359 with a 357 jug and slug, and need a tank to finish my 044/046 hybrid.

Since the OP has a 7900, when I had both the 7900 and 066, I used the 7900 90% of the time. The other 10% that I used the 066 was to justify having it... I too sold my 7900 because it was almost new and had too many similar sized saws and that resulted in the most money back in my pocket. I sorta miss the 7900. I may get a 390 and sell the 660 down the road... who knows, but I'm over equipped now also.

Yesterday I got the opportunity to do a little cutting, and shot videos of the saws I'll be selling. Here are the 7900 and a purebred (i.e. not the mongrel saw) 044, bucking the same dead cherry log. At one point the guy I was cutting with felt the ill-advised urge to help me when the log started to roll a bit.

The 066 found its way over to AS. Duke isn't the one who advertised it on CL, and I can't imagine he paid the previous seller's asking price. I wonder how he pried the guy's fingers loose.

Yeah and I was supposed to be looking for my wife's x-mas presents on Cyber Monday. I'm a last minute shopper, , I just finished up five minutes ago and it's 12:06am.
