I'm sitting here wondering what type of intestinal fortitude you possess, and what can possibly make you so resistant to CAD?

Personally I think you may be one of those persons who just needs a little help towards the edge, so maybe a mystery package on your doorstep is in order.......BAWAHAHAHA!

If this crew can't make you waiver on getting a second saw, you are strong HarvestMan! :rofl:  I must have a serious CAD problem. Reading this thread has just about convinced me that I must have a 4th saw.
Great idea to get another bar chain!

Oh, we all have our weaknesses. Only recently I gave into want and bought my Super Split. Fortunately for me, it is a one time illness, unlike CAD :D.

I was surprised that no one here pointed that out ... must be part of the CAD disease state.

Sounds to me that CAD is rather fun for all who have it. Probably a lot like firewood hoarding except a bit more expensive.

 I've just got the beginning stages of CAD, but I sure do like it!
Love that Super Split, but I'm afraid of the speed with knotty stuff. I bet splitting goes quick with nice rounds. Congrats!

Oops! I guess I liked it so well, I decided to steal it and not give you any credit :emb:, sorry about that. Actually, your comment about using fresh gas and proper oil mix and the saw lasting 39 years was the one that helped me realize I really didn't need another saw; thanks!

The shop didn't give me any advice. I did tell them about CAD; they had never heard about it, but they wished they had more customers who suffered from it.

Another bar is going to be $40 at the Stihl dealer and a chain is going to $15-20 so a bar and chain is going to cost $60. You can find a used MS 170 for $100, only $40 more than what a bar and chain will cost.:D

Good thinking 94!!! Thats how I would reason it. Gary had a 170 awhile back too not sure if he sold it or not?

Haha about the 39 year comment I meant to type 30 but hit the 9 accidentally. Tiny phone keyboard and keys at the edge of the screen:emb:

Yea many saw shops dont even know the lingo or that there guys like us out there??? I dont like visiting the dealer much cause I get tired of talking to people who know very little about what there pretending to be an expert on. I like the owners or mechanics who come out the best. And I am no expert myself but know more than most of the counter folk I get at the dealers I go to.

WTF---Why are so you worried about what other people like? I really like having a second saw. The last time I was out cutting firewood I broke a $6.00 adjusting screw, I got my second saw out and resumed cutting:loco: :crazy:no brainer....RIGHT?

Doesn't have to be expensive. You can buy non runner 42cc Poulans for $5-15. The majority require only fuel lines, purge bulb, pickup, carb cleaning, bar dressing and cutter sharpening. That's $3 in parts (bulk buy) or $10 (procured locally). You can open the muffler and tune richer. You have a competent saw for 2-3 cords per year for $15. Can sell the saw for $60 in short order.

Thats true. I bought a poulan wild thing family saw. I think I paid 20-25. It needed a fuel cap as the other one had swollen and was hard to remove. And I cleaned and rebuilt the carb. I think I had around $39 in the saw in the end. It ran well and had little wear on it. I sold it as I didnt needs it. I think I sold it as a running saw for just like $50

Guido Savage posted a good trick. Put cap in a baggie in freezer overnight. It shrinks enough to be serviceable again.
