Well, the matter is settled. The local FFL received the Remington and I went down there for a NICS check. He showed me the Remington....yup, 870 Police Marine Magnum Model #25047, indistinguishable from the gun I sold years ago. The Mossberg will be going up for sale even though I'm going to take a bath on it.
Well, if you want it you have first dibbs . Stupid low price. After that it gets listed on gunbroker or someplace else.
Ahh!!! That's how one gets first dibs. I'll have to pass. I have an older 870 that don't get used much. Might should break some clays with it soon, now that you have me thinking.
I'd keep the 870. It's tough, reliable, and parts are everywhere. If something breaks, it's a quick fix. Plus, I've always liked the feel of it over others.
I had an 870 left hand issued to me over twenty years. I actually like the Mossbergs with the safety switch on top of the receiver. You can move it with either hand depending on present needs. Throw away those pistol grips. Their only use is to catch a buyer.
If you're thinking of keeping just one, the choice really depends on what fits your needs best. If reliability and ease of maintenance are priorities, a pump shotgun is hard to beat. Semi-autos can be great too, but they can be finicky with certain loads. I’ve spent plenty of time tinkering with lever action rifle parts, so I get the appeal of something mechanically simple and dependable when making this kind of decision.
