    I remember taking back 12 packs of beer bottles for return.. this is probably 20 yrs or more ago.. and the first thing the kid at the service desk did was to reach for a calculator.

    12x5 isn't rocket science. You'd think after a while they'd just catch on to the fact that it's 60 cents.

    As to today's "teaching" of math.. I have no idea on how it's supposed to make sense in the real world.

    I still wear an analog watch. All our clocks at the 'stead are analog, in fact I cant think of a digital clock anywhere here.
    I like knowing how much time has lassed or how much time to go, and looking at an analog timepiece makes that a cinch.

    All the clocks in the school that I work in are dial clocks. Kids are always hauling out their phones to find out the time. I think it is funny and sad at the same time.

    that would be a challenge alright. I think we have so many expressions in language that someone new to the language must really wonder about us.
