Stepped out on the back porch this morning and could hear something. I'm thinking, "that can't be traffic at 3 AM on a Sunday" (especially being 30 miles away from a city). Then I realized it is a sound I haven't heard for a long time - the Contoocook river. All the water from up north is reaching us. I know it is water from up north, and not from local rains, because I don't have any water running in the drainage ditch from the swamp next door. The river is 4 blocks from me which tells you how dry it has been that I couldn't immediately identify the sound.
Little bird let me know today that news making cold will be here, and that’s almost everywhere, starting the middle of next week and lasting for a while.
Bit of rain this morning, dreary day till late afternoon, then monsoon. And now it's lightning and thunder.... Better than snow or ice!
We have below zero temps forecasted for this coming weekend. First string of days below freezing, this year. I have my black locust and red oak ready to go! I suspect the oil furnace will come alive, overnight.
An arctic blast arrives here in New England on Friday. Hangs around for the weekend. I just topped off my deck wood stack with red oak, and a few pieces of white oak and black locust. I like to leave the cover off when new wood is brought up. Helps with any surface moisture. It'll be covered by sundown. I also went and picked up groceries. No need to venture out in subzero temps and wind chills ~-40, until late Saturday afternoon for a family dinner. These temps can be a big thing around here. Stay warm and safe.
30* here right now, but the wind just started to pick up so I assume that is the front starting to take affect (oh lookie, the temp just dropped to 28). Gotta keep an eye on the garage temp and if it gets down too cold, start cycling the boiler so the FHW pipes in there don't freeze up. Did my regular dump run and grocery shopping last night (picked up a bunch for the housebound neighbor, and a few things for me to last until my Sunday run). Grocery store was much busier than it normally is on a Thursday night. I was surprised the dump was wicked busy since a notice was sent out htey will be closed Saturday, but maybe I got there early enough (or late enough) to avoid the crowd.
