I hope you get some, our next rainfall according to Accu is June 1st, just a touch under half an inch. Last year we were pretty dry at this time of year.
We have a backdoor cold front coming in for our area on Wednesday June 1, it could mean high winds with possible severe weather, check the forecast for your area.
I'm not seeing much about it on Accu today, we should be fine especially after I have some of the banana cream pie my wife made when I was mowing.
This just came in from National Grid for tomorrow. We have increased staffing and extended evening and overnight work shifts for Wednesday to prepare for possible severe thunderstorms in the Central and Northern New York and Mohawk Valley regions beginning in the early morning hours and continuing through the day. Meteorologists are predicting strong winds with potentially damaging gusts, as well as dangerous lightning. In the event of a power outage, our crews and support teams will be working for as long as needed to restore service as soon as conditions are safe.
Remember when schools started closing due to forecasts of stormy weather? It has happened around here for 2, 3 decades now. Guess what? About half of the time, the weather turns out fine.......
From what I saw tonight, the higher chance for severe weather will be well south of us. They do the same here during the winter but our school district doesn't cancel much.
So far any of these possible severe storm threats have missed us, we'll see what happens on Thursday.
WWA Summary by Location for 42.9N 77.91W with NYZ013/NYC051/NYZ013 emphasis Severe Thunderstorm Warning
I was gone from home from Sunday until Tuesday this week. My wife told me about a bad storm that hit our area on Monday. When I got home, I emptied out 3.4 inches from the rain gauge. Today I cut up a poplar that had fallen in the ditch . Tracks were there indicating someone came along and pushed the tree off of the road. I tried going for a ride in my woods but 2 large oak trees got uprooted. I was able to get close enough to one of them where I could measure the circumference and it was 57 inches. I measured at least 20 or more feet above the root ball. The second tree looked to be even bigger. With the temps we are having now, it may be a little while before they get cut up. I would not be surprised to find other trees down where I couldn't get today. I have to move wood into my wood shed and split a bunch that I bucked up last year before I can do much with what is down. Pics will be coming.
I saw some of those storms on TV, nasty. Get that stuff done first that you listed, those uprooted trees will stay uprooted.
Thanks, Potsdam is north of us but Dekalb is west of us. I wonder how Loon and XXL are doing, one is close to the Tornado Warning area.
