With the strong sun the past two days, I bet we lost 4-5 inches of snow.

Saw only a modest amount of melting today. Still too cold.

We had some melting today. I managed to clear half of the roof about 8ft up, shingles are dry, and what ice dam was starting is no more.

If the forecast is the same for our area tomorrow morning, we'll put in a small load of wood.

IMG_0428.PNG In February I thought I was getting a gift towards heading toward the 3 year plan. March took the gift away and I hope April isn't stingy too.

We didn't get much from the last storm so that was good.

Gasifier , it looks like we're in for a chit load of rain this week in this area so the Brook will be cranking with the snow melt and rain with possible flooding.

Ya, the rain coming combined with the thawing is nice, and sloppy. My wife and I want to do a good amount of work to the horse pasture, but I told her the best thing to do is wait for things to dry out. It is just too wet it isn't worth going in with the tractor.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM EDT TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY
    AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a

    * Flood Watch for Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, Wayne, and Northern
    Cayuga Counties.

    * From 2 AM EDT Tuesday through Saturday afternoon.

    * A storm system tonight and Tuesday will bring 1 to 1.5 inches of
rain to the area, with a additional 1 to 2 inches possible from
another system on Thursday into Friday. In addition, warm
temperatures during this period will melt snow pack which
lingers across the Tug Hill and Adirondacks.

    * Each system poses a threat for flooding. The first system will
cause rises in the Black River basin, resulting in potential for
flooding as a result of the run-off. Also, the Seneca River
which flows into Cross lake is currently running high, and this
system should result in steady or potentially additional rises
    in the waterway.

    * Rainfall amounts are a bit more uncertain with the second
system, but there will be very little time for slower responding
waterways to fall before this next round of rain arrives. This
will likely result in a second crest on the Black River, as well
as the Seneca and Oswego Rivers and adjacent lakes.

    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop. Stay tuned to weather radio or other radio and tv
stations for further details or updates

Thanks thewoodlands , I'm going to try to get some outside stuff done from 4-7PM, and get a walk/run in as well. I have some areas I can spread the manure around and put into her new garden area. We have a triangle shape area near barn between fence and barn road that gets a lot of sun. So we are spreading the manure real thick in there. She will plant pumpkins, and maybe something else in there this year. It will be a great time to walk in town over the next few weeks down by the dam with all this water coming down river! Love walking it this time of year!

Wind and rain are never a good mix when the ground is already saturated!

Getting a real gentle melt of the lake ice at the cottage. Just barely open along the shoreline today.

It's dried out nice in our area so the 1.5 inches of rain we might get won't hurt us back here.

Yes. Finally. Nice to have some dry conditions to work the ground. I did some more York raking to finish off the area we dug that ditch through the back yard for power and water to the barn. I busted azz for about two hours picking up rocks, leveling as I raked. But it is a good job done. Grass seed is now planted. Rain off and on for the next six days should be good for that.
