The stuff I’m cutting lately is starting out dry, dry as in 10-14% with a meter while splitting!

 

T.Jeff Veal, are those fires near you? Sounds like GA and FL are getting it on... Predictive Services put out a Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory for the SE US. Interesting and reaffirms what we've been seeing regarding fuels availability and fire behavior this season.

The fires are farther south. But this is the burn ban for GA now...

There are/were a bunch of power outages across CT as of this morning, from yesterday’s thunderstorms. 1-3” of rain coming tomorrow with localized areas expecting 4-6” of rain. That’s one way to get rid of a precipitation deficit. I might have some unexpected firewooding to do in a couple days.

 

I saw on the weather channel that NY, NJ, PA had lots of power outages too. One storm came through here around 10-11 last night. Decent rain with some thunder. Stopped all the yard fireworks. Some started up again but not many.

My next cut is at that new construction site you hooked my up with from CL. Ain't going in the mud. Wondering how dirty and gritty the logs will get?

 

Most of that looks to stay just south of us as it moves along the RI border.

Heavier rains hit us later Monday night and all day Tuesday. A long extended rain would be nice.

 

Only if something falls in my own yard but otherwise no I won’t be going around looking for trees to cut.

Local news this morning said 35K still without power yet. NW CT showed trees and power lines down. Torrington and Burlington were mentioned.

 

I’m sure I wouldn’t have to drive too far to find some damage. As of yesterday several areas in Bristol had no power, and many traffic lights were out. We’ll see what the next 24 hours brings. A few good inches of rain might be enough to take down a few standing dead trees.

Temping but looks lile a busy road and the wood is more than likely on the other side of the guardrail once I get there. I don't hop them anymore.

Channel 8 news said still over 17K powerless. Showed damage in parts of Bristol and interviewed the mayor.

 

Thats over an hour from me anyhow.

Sorry, I equate SW Connecticut with basically everything from New Haven to Danbury and Greenwich. In my mind you step out onto your back porch every morning and gaze through binoculars at the Statue of Liberty

 

Well you're right geographically.

Usually I have to stand on the roof to see the SOL. On a clear day of course!

I may be a wood snob, but I'd rather not be associated with Fairfield county.

 

Channel 8 was in Harwinton and Farmington showing more damage and crews working. One shot showed a nice sized black locust cut up. Be sure to give Vince a heads up.

 

Don't see this very often for my neck of the woods.

 

Yikes! We're happy to be on the rainy (hopefully) fringe, but there's no rain in our forecast. We remain >8in below yearly average. Sets some kind of record for the driest year. And that's coming off a dry 2025.

 

Thankfully we're lucky enough to have come out of the drought a few weeks ago but it's been pretty dry since. We could definitely use some decent soaking rain but not keen on the severe aspect of the storm. We'll have to see what happens. Going to pull the generator out and test fire it just in case (mainly for freezers/fridge/coffee pot in the event of an outage). I know your area could definitely use a good period of rain.

This was the latest I saw on Tuesday's forecast:

"strong shear ahead of a cold front, allowing for a line with embedded supercells possible. All severe hazards will be possible through the evening"
