Far too many suspension bridges around this year. That's not the only one. I recall VT had one an MA had one I think around Leominster.
Still no power here. It came on for about 5 minutes and back off. Another long night I think. Bad thing is I’m the end of the line. 500 feet away got power back 9 last night. That’s the end of the line coming from the other direction. Roads washed out, bridges gone, towns flooded and evacuated. In Fairfield there is an island in the kennebec river with a camp on it. Water is up to the eve and I’m not sure why the camp is still where it is with the force of the river. I think this is why we don’t have any juice, this is just a small part. It goes about 1/4 mile like this. Poles snapped off and wires in the road everywhere.
Oh and I need a new roof. Lost a LOT of shingles on the south side last night. Insurance has been called.
It will be! I need to find another route to Conway! 302 will be shut down a month I suspect in crawford
That sucks for those who have to travel through Crawford Notch for work. Original assessment this morning from the Twin Mountain PD was three days. NH DOT now says "no timetable" so I wouldn't be surprised if it was closed for weeks. I feel for those affected, but it does make my area a lot quieter without the traffic!!
Yup. We haven’t drained the 3+ from last Monday and all the snow melt. Another 3 yesterday and winds to 70mph. The state is a disaster right now, everywhere you look. Up in the county didn’t get it too bad, nothing like other places. Wife’s mom never lost power and they usually do if the sun shines just right, not sure how they kept it for sure. Was in Colebrook last Friday, it’d be interesting to see how they fared, they had quite a bit more snow than the Conway area. Dixville notch was a little sketchy when I went over it.
Last time I commented on this tread we got a good rain, so feel free to pass some my way. November was in top 20 driest and December has been the driest in recorded history going back around 150 years. I don’t think we have had more than 4-6” total since late July. We ended 2022 10-15” behind and are about 15” behind for 23 with no sign of it letting up anytime soon. Enough with my bellyaching, stay safe, get dried out. Look out for your family and neighbors!
That line has only been used by a scenic railroad for many years, and they know about the damage (since they're the ones who will have to repair it). Normally this time of year, that area is part of the railroad line used by the local snowmobile club to make a closed trail route through the mountains. They already posted that the tracks will be closed for the season (not that any snow is left) with no timetable for repairs. Also a shame as this was the last year that they were going to be able to utilize the tracks for snowmobiles as NHDOT told them the scenic railroad wants to run year-round starting next year. The tracks were great for me since I could hop on my sled, go right out of my driveway, down my road and jump on the tracks to ride the 70+ miles of the closed system. Now I'll have to trailer a mile just to access the trails from another location.
Going to take a long time to recover from this storm. Shot of a section of the tracks southeast of me.
Gez, just catching wind of this and sent a text to a friend up in Bartlett, that is some serious damage! Everyone stay safe up in North Country!
In the news tonight they are talking being open tomorrow! Unbelievable. The state has been there building the road and replacing the bridge to get to one area. Limited people are being allowed to ski, season pass holders or those multi peak passes. Lots of people have been refunded already. Too bad, I used to love that mountain and skipped school at least once a week to go ski there.
That’s terrible! Right before the busiest week of the season. I feel for the resort and the local economy.
Talked my friend up in Bartlett, he's good, sent some video's. The brook on his property turned in a small stream and the Saco rose so high they shutdown the bridge for about 12hrs. Looked like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory on steroids!
We were in Conway Monday of last week after 3 inches of rain. It looked like sewer water then. I’m sure now looks ever worse with all the runoff.
Got up to VT this morning and here are some pics from the yard. I was able to clean up the driveway today (first pic) and tidied up some of the rest. May get some equipment to help with the rest. Second time in 5 months I’ve had to do this. It’s like cleaning up beach sand from a shag carpet without a vacuum.
A potential nor'easter is being forecasted for this Sunday, for northeast US. Track of low pressure not known, at this time.
I saw on Sunday that this has potential to be a snow storm here in the mid-atlantic depending on the low pressure system tracking. My area was over a foot on the early map which doesnt happen too often. For the First Time in Forever
