So far the worst of the storms with lightning have stayed south of us but only a by few miles. Looking at the radar at about 3 p.m. we'll get hit with a good stretch of red and some dark red chit on the radar, hopefully the direction of that line of storms changes or breaks up. The lightning that went south of us caused the lights to flicker here but only once.
https://www.wtnh.com/weather/todays-connecticut-forecast/weather-forecast/ We had flooding twice this week already The swales in my backyard are still flowing from all the water that continues to rush downhill from up above me. I suppose it's better than an extended drought, like we had last year.
Oh man! That hail damage is tough to see! So sorry about your truck! Hope you are safe despite that. Rain in SoVT with some thunder. Hit some massive storms in North Western Mass on 91. One of those everyone going 40 on the highway types of rain.
A early afternoon thunderstorm with plenty of sunshine, gave everything a good healthy soak. Wet pasture blessed us with a nice mist to enjoy with an evening Old Fashioned.
I’m watching our cameras and it’s raining hard at our place. Over a half inch of rain and more to come based on the radar. Ugh.
We just had a heavy, heavy rain with some crazy azz lightning that hit close by the house, it knocked something offline which came back on.
He may be OK; looks like his area is under a green cell. Fingers crossed for him! Everything ok at your place thewoodlands ?
Heavy rains with a lightning strike close by, just a big flash on all sides of the house with one item being knocked offline but is back. This is coming up, hopefully it misses us or breaks up. The rain, thunder and lightning have stopped so this round is over but we have more coming in, I'll keep you updated once we have a storm coming in.
My area was under that green cell for quite a while and I barely got anything, and only for a short time. I think the air was dry enough that some of it was evaporating before it hit the ground. I was sure enjoying the lower humidity the last couple of days. Looks like it is going up, along with the temps though.
Canadian border VT Skier76 , it looks like the rain train with severe weather could continue for both our areas on Thursday, the info is from NOAA and not the WWS. (woodlands weather service) Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible on Thursday. These thunderstorms could produce instances of flash flooding. Excessive heat remains possible on Friday due to hot and humid conditions. Maximum heat index values may rise into the low to mid 90s in valley locations.
Yesterday in seven minutes, we received 10 mm of rain or 0.394 inches, I just emptied out the rain gauge. From AccuWeather. AccuWeather meteorologists warn that where slow-moving, heavy storms set up, rainfall totals of 1–2 inches with localized amounts of 3 inches could lead to a risk of flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas. People in or traveling through the metro areas of New York City, Albany, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. will be at risk for heavy thunderstorms from Tuesday afternoon to Tuesday evening. "Because of the vast amount of urbanization in these locations, the storms flood streets, highways and underpasses," Sosnowski said. "This alone can lead to major travel disruptions. And, as locally severe storms pass nearby the major airports, ground stops and flight delays are likely." The bulk of the drenching storms are likely from 3-9 p.m., but there will be some exceptions, Sosnowski added. There were storms rolling through central Pennsylvania first thing Tuesday morning. Some downpours with thunder and lightning are likely to linger well into the night along the immediate Atlantic coast. Forecasters say residents planning to spend time outdoors in the areas at risk into Tuesday evening should closely monitor the weather forecast and be alert for changing conditions.
