I checked my improvisional rain gauge (plastic tote) this morning to see what we got overnight and maybe 1/4" or so. Just checked again and 4" of rain since 9am! Our river was low this morning and louder when i just went out as a good rapid in the ravine below over driveway. Water was muddy too. Living up to its name...Muddy river.

We've had flash flood warnings all morning and tornado watch as well. Weather channel showed street flooding in New Haven.

Also noticed this red/black oak had snapped and hung up over our section of driveway. It was windy earlier. Rain weakened soil probably didnt help. Well hooked in a big oak and im not touching it. IMG_3601.JPG IMG_3602.JPG IMG_3603.JPG

We got clobbered this morning. This is the first time I’ve seen major flooding on hillsides in my town. Too much water, too fast.

I didn't measure the rain at all but my backyard was flooded like I've never seen it. My French drain couldn't keep up. The run to the chicken coop had about 6" of water rushing through it at peak torrent. Street is covered with dirt from something up above washing out. Crazy.

At 8:56 yesterday morning, I had 1" of rain. At 9:26 (30 minutes later), I had 2" of rain. An hour after that I was at 2.75", and the final total was 3" (well, I don't know if I got any overnight. Someone in town got a video just as a town road buckle all the way across and it ended up on on not only the local news, but ABC news.

Took these screen shots from the local news last night

So it looks like my town's total was on the low end compared to a lot of other places.

Ended up with 1.5” yesterday. Things got really high in the streams. Thankfully, it stopped when it did.

Crazy weather in New England! Can’t believe all the pics everyone here has posted!

I'm glad it stopped, we never received anymore rain since my last post. The sun is out with a nice breeze but the smoke is back in this area and hanging in the pines.

Ugh! Not ideal, but I believe the culverts can handle that.

    Videos from 7/16/2023.

This was after 1.5” of rain fell in Southern VT. This culvert runs under the road we live on and on to our property. It’s the convergence of two streams:

And a straight video of just the culvert:

    The noise was pretty impressive!
