    Wow, that's a large lid.
How the heck do you get that off?
Maybe the "inspectors" could help jump on the 4x4. Need a fulcrum.

I wouldn't lift off the lid, this is the point to call the Ka Ka Sucker. They lift off the lid, do their clean out, then put the lid back. Then you fill the hole. In your case, see what you can do so it won't be so hard to get to next time. May cover it in layers of foam then a few inches of sand. Easy access if you have to get to it in the winter. Some figure out a way to put an access pipe that is large enough for the suckers to get to, but that doesn't allow for any visual inspection. Anyway, looks like your hard work has paid off.

Yeah I'll need an excavator to lift the lid off.
Going to give him a call tomorrow and see if he can come up first thing Monday.
Probably going to have to move the dirt pile for the mini-excavator anyways and backfilling with sand was already in my mind savemoney

Any way to put a vertical pipe in there for a easier clean out? Rather than digging out that hole all the time? Just glad that you got some resolution to the stink box...

Ya, I was thinking same thing, I'd be asking/researching risers, homemade or otherwise, or lid adapters, or something, that'd keep a guy from all that work next time to pump.

    Nice diggin' bro

It's been like this for 35yrs -it went through my mind to build a steel box around the lid - but in reality that's probably 3hrs of hand digging with multiple dunks in the pool
I'm not paying myself by the hour;)
I think I'm going to move the dirt next to the garage and backfill with sand so the digging is easier when I decide to pump it again the roots were bad but the chunks of shale make it hard to cut the roots

Knowing where the tank was at, was half the battle, I figure a sand backfill will be chump change and still allow full inspection
Ole Blue with bedroller makes moving soil not so bad

basod, I like that sand idea, but if it were me I'd run that past the pumpers too, see what they say. Ya see, I'm 55 yrs. old and it's been my standard experience to come up with a great idea only to really louse things up. I'll be having nighmares tonight of sand sifting through the lid crevass and winding up in that tank.....thanks bro

Pumper guy wasn't even interested in finding the tank, so if he can't come early Monday the phonebook will be open
Kind of feel rooked a bit paying $225 for me pulling a toilet only to have him say it was under the deck. In his defense the tank probably is homemade because the lid is not square.
These guys run into all kinds of crappy situations and being a maintenance pump he's overworked as it is but I'll ask them for an extra discount since I did most all the work

Yep, first time cost me an extra $25 to have him find and dig out the lid.

That is fairly standard. At that it is still cheap.

I haven't read the whole story so I might be repeating a answer. Using the septic for laundry could be the culprit. It blocks the field bed with lint. Here you can dig up up to a certain % of the field bed to do your own DIY. Something to look into. There's a different bed piping material to use which needs no crush stone, it's a upside down U shape black plastic with drains on the side and will save a lot of work. Good luck!

Separate the gray water from the sewer if you can.

Just finished pumping mine - full to the top....he said it hasn't been working in a long time.
Upside there was a good 3' of liquid, he couldn't finish pumping the bottom because it was too thick for the pump to pull.
He mentioned Rid-ex (not as the lifesaver they claim it to be) but that it would help the solids from being as thick as they were.

I won't know why the leach field isn't working until I decide to tear up the deck

Stinny my summer hasn't been bad.
The fact that I now know the system isn't working - may bother me, or I could just say screw it hadn't been pumped in 35yrs as it was;)
