I like this a lot. Seeing a picture is one thing. But touching seeing and smelling is another. Need to get out there in the woods and do some searching. Maybe fell a dead one or two. Lots of windstorms hit this area when winter approached. Trouble is, its hard to get to those places!
FatBoy85 use caution burning black walnut outdoors if you have dogs. The smoke contains juglone which can be toxic to dogs and some other animals. I don't know the required level to be toxic and I would hate to see a furry friends get sick. Just a foot note to keep in mind. Keep up the scrounging, pics and questions and the knowledge will come.
Aw man I will keep this in mind!!! Thanks for the knowledge!!! My furry friends deserve better than that. Since I got only some and not a great amount maybe something else besides burning it would serve a better purpose? I'll read on this some more. Can't be too careful, I don't get them often on top of my piles but should they get the exposure, I'll know what to look for.
Its a culture thing, but having your saw sticking up out of a load of firewood riding down the hiway is a point of pride to alot of washington and oregon residents. And your right its not very #%%@ smart
Take a look at this, while caution is best exhibited, I don't burn with my daughter out and about. I do with my pets out but likely to keep the walnut burned on a day that isnt windy so smoke is carried away well. Again Id rather not burn it but now hearing it being sawn by chopsaw could expose me to that. Well dry and mull on it.
