The plumber was here today. IMG_20230822_095140.jpg

Among pipes and shut off valves, he installed an Atlas Filtri filter.

I'll need to get a few extra cartridges to have on hand.

Your mileage may vary but I detest the paper cartridges, they developed an bad odor and flavor in our water sometimes after 2-3 weeks. The Polypropylene filter works 100x better for us!
Hand tight was always sufficient for me, even then required effort to remove!

It comes with a "wrench" to loosen/tighten the housing.

We installed a automatic back flush iron filter and it was definitely a good investment.
Our water has so much iron you'd swear a magnet would stick to it.

I have one of these too. The difference is the iron filters oxidize dissolved iron into chunks and then filters out. The straight filter in this thread just filters out the chunks or debris that are already solids. Different solutions for different problems.

If Mikeinma still gets toilet staining or other signs of iron contamination then he can always add an iron filter.

    No stains. Just grit.

Appears the filter is working as advertised.
