Great looking stacks! I am still on the lower end of what I've burnt last winter. Admittedly I did let the furnace run a little bit more than normal due to some cooler weather last month and this month. Partly because I was pinching splits and I haven't found that shoulder season rhythm just yet. Seems am re-lighting the stove much too often and often times am heating everyone out of the house.
I had one last night too. It was 52°, but my wife said she was cold. So I made a 3 silver maple split fire and that was enough.
Having the wife and kids home from school since mid march and a cooler spring, I went through more SS would than planned. Not a bad thing, as it helped me clean up some as I scrounged. I think there's still a couple fires to be had.
I've been collecting more and more SS as much as possible. Granted I've got a lot of ash, which is not a SS wood, but the box elder and elm I have, will be my go to wood. Once I get an ATV operational again, I'll probably even go get the basswood that fell across the trail. It's just too easy not to bring back.
Figured I'd be in good shape in March, but like others I ended up about average. Boiler ran 8 months straight. Shut it down today finally! I had a bad winter for cutting, ground didn't freeze up good & I wasn't able to skid logs most of the winter. Gonna have to get some out this summer, just no way around it.
Just the opposite out west! Last year we were without power for 11 days straight thanks to a big snowstorm, and I burned well into my not so ready to burn stash. This year, better wood, and a cord less of it burned. Western Oregon, 3 cords, or so this year. But, we are still burning. Once that happens, you pledge to never get caught with your pants down again.
I’d say your spot on. Long cold spring. I know I went through more fire starters by far. Even had to resort to kindling and paper for the last few weeks of burning.
