I had a few hours so I figured I might as well get the prep started. It had been a couple of years so I pulled the baffle out of the T6, cleaned the baffle and blew it out with compressed air. The baffle still looks good with just the tiniest bit of sag in the center after 5 years. I also pulled all the side rails and insulation out of the stove and cleaned it from the top down after sweeping the chimney. Here are a few pics of the baffle for anyone who hasn't seen one and the stove before cleaning. It is definitely heavy (I would guess around 40 pounds?).
In the above pictures you can see the bricks that cracked from being constantly bumped with wood when loading. I was thinking I would need to replace them this year but I ended up pulling up bricks from the floor which were in one piece and swapping them for the broken ones. It turned out great and should save me a from buying bricks for another year or two.
Really nice job cleaning everything up Cert! That baffle looks like it takes a lot of the heat but still looks great.
I am sure it takes a lot of heat but it doesn't look detiorated at other than discoloration. I still think the baffle/secondary combustion design is pretty good. The secondary combustion chamber is actually a full welded stainless steel box with that thisck piece of insulation over the top and then a stainless protector plate over the insulation.
My Pacific Energy Super 27 stove looks like it has the same baffle(at least the same design) and it has been heating me and my family for 15 years with no issues. They appear to be well designed and constructed. I heat 2100sf and it does a wonderful job. Thanks for the write-up and pics. I need to be sure mine is ready to go!
That don't look too bad at all Certified, especially for having to run the gills off of it once when someone left the door open.......we remember things around here.
Lol you do have a great memory I am still surprised it made the temp back up as quick as it did and that was the most wood I ever pushed through that stove in one day lol. Here is to hoping I never have a repeat of that situation!
