Just keep tinkering!! Sorry for the slow response! I never got an alert from your message here. Anyhow mine should be here today!!!! Ordered a whole outfit from them. Home
I was probably 13 when I asked my grandfather to use his scyth(it looked bad@ss). I went at it like the guy racing the weed whacker and got schooled by grandpa. He was about 80 at the time. There is a technuiqe that won't wear you down and is efficient that I only half mastered. It's literally more like a dance than anything muscle/chopping related.
Boomstick I'm sure, gramps had an 800 acre farm that he did. Fence lines and field edges with.. He didn't have tractor used horses.. Also cut split stacked 35 cord for house. No chainsaws in short way tougher than me.
That guy was working really hard. The one with the weed wacker, not so much. I have used the scythe when I could stand unassisted. It really isn't hard to use at all. Cuts so smooth. Everything today is all about powered tool. the scythe is still one worth considering when you have a lot of weeds and grass that need to be knocked down.
6’ 2” in bare feet. The neat thing about the place I got mine from is that they have a ton of info to read! Everything from snath type to blade length and type. They are super helpful and ask for a bunch of measurements prior to your order so that it’s custom fit.
will do! i figured ill get an Heidesense: A decent one, i was using a really cheap housewife scythe like we would call it... anyhow i had to go through alot of brush like stuff as i used it the other day to cut just grass it was alot smoother and more cutting instead of chopping. Looks well nice, all the goodies came for free? thats generous id say!
That looks like a nice heavy Bush whacking blade there!! As for “free” goodies they were part of the package deal, not exactly free.
I have several but it's a little dark right now for pics. I pick them up at various estate sales over the years.
Scythes or wheel hoes?... If talking wheel hoe I love mine, I got 5 or 6 of them. Don't get a high wheel one I hate the one I have.
The wheel hoe I was referring to. I’m glad you said that about the high wheel because if I were to get one that would be what I’d look for.
The high wheel ones are a lot harder to use. I read a article a while back it has to do with ergonomics. The low wheel ones put more energy to the tool itself. Hoss's makes new ones, I've never had one but have used some of their attachments. Also if you are handy you can make one. Look up planet whizbang wheel hoe. I have the plans if you need them.
I have never in person saw a scythe used and have a couple that I inherited. They seem as though they are designed for someone who is about 5'5". I am not overly tall 5-11, but with back issues and stooping kills me. How do you adjust these old ones up, or are they designed shorter and I need to heat the blade and fire adjust them? Just can't get a useable angle without hunching my back or looking like I need to find a toilet cuz I'm squatting so much.
Is it the curved handle American style scythe? Those usually end up folding you over like that for some reason. I’m sure if you made one or had one made to fit you’d be more upright.
