Flat ground verses hilly is a game changer. Behind the house I've used my Magliner for long Ironwood blowdowns.
Two wheeler is great for flat ground. Tips to easy on uneven terrain IMO. Single tire wheelbarrow works best for me.
The Log mule looked pretty cool.

Usually I have not.... I’ve used that hand cart and it is a stupid thing isn’t it?! But it does the job and I’ve placed stuff that was extremely heavy on that or my wheelbarrow to get it somewhere and as uneven ground disrupts it, will send it to the ground. I’ve brought my barrow to only a couple scrounges when there’s a lot of small stuff, this was awhile back though when I was scrounging on the daily.

    Well...

I ended up making a heavy duty hand truck/dolly with some key features I want for a wood scrounger and big round getter. The only thing I had to buy was the 10' long chain, which was $9.99. Its only a 310 lb rated chain. Everything else I had on hand.

Some of the key features I built into it include:

    * Oversized 16" tires, which provides easier rolling and better ground clearance for stumps, rocks, uneven ground, etc
    *3/4" axle
*Removable handle. You slide it out for easier transporting
*Oversized bottom foot plate. It is 24" wide and about 20" deep
*Heavy duty steel construction with welded joints. Without weighing it, I bet it weighs 90-100 lbs
*Chain slots to attach safety chain so big rounds don't roll off

For reference the round on it in the last pictures is a 22" diameter red oak round, about 20" long

Looks great!! One thing I think I would do is widen the track and move the rear plate back to the axle.. that would reduce the pull required to get the load off of the ground, and stabilize the whole thing while in motion due to the wider track and lower center of gravity. Let us know how it works out for you. That’s a back saver for sure!!!

So then you would have the wheels on the outside of the plate that is used for carrying the load. In that case you would be limited on the size of the round you could carry by how wide you made the track.

Not necessarily. Putting fenders around the wheels, the round could either rest against the back plate or wider rounds would rest against the wheel fenders. Wider rounds would also be more susceptible to tipping over due to high center of gravity.

I do have plans to make a front piece that will easily detach so I can carry split firewood or multiple smaller rounds at once. Like the woodchuck carts. So stay tuned for that. Hopefully tomorrow. Once it warms up I’ll also be painting this orange.

I had thought of this, but you have to consider the further back you push the base, the less ground clearance you have when you tilt it back. Clearing a low cut stump, or boulder may now be an issue.

I added the easily removable (with two bolts) wood carrier extension piece

Very cool! I think the shorter plate makes it easier to tilt forward and kick out on rounds though. I really like that what you came up with is versatile.
I agree with buzz-zaw. Nice Job

It was. When I went out to get the orange paint, I remembered I had used it on the snowplow, so I went with gloss black instead. Maybe I'll do an orange stripe.

I ended up doing more mods to this custom cart and gave it a custom paint job. Reasons why in the video!

Just saw this again. Why were you replacing tires? Why not just reinflate them?
