There’s a house near mine and a fallen oak by the road on the owner’s property. I saw him raking leaves and pulled in to ask if he’d be ok with me cutting it. He said sure but that he had some more accessible stuff. Took me for a walk around his woodlot that had been selectively harvested and that got hit by a windstorm. Lots of oak, maple and cherry on the ground…just how I like it!
Good score and close to home. I have no wood to cut currently and am stuck pizz revving my saws in the front yard.
So went for two loads today. Cut up the read oak in the third picture above and the cherry underneath it. I didn’t load up the trailer too much the first go but did quite a bit more the second. The suspension was looking pretty low. Anyhow might go back tomorrow to tackle the cherry in the second picture. Or split what I have. I have not cut much oak. damm it’s heavy. My 11yr old actually did most of the stacking in the trailer. He’s earned some reward, I guess.
Nice red oak and black cherry rounds. As soon as I advertise seasoned cherry for sale, it is gone the next day. Not high BTU wood, but burns great with a nice aroma.
I’m planning on selling some next year. My local market sells wood for 90-100 a face cord. I’ll charge $110 for ash & maple including delivery and try for $120 for cherry. Really just trying to make a few extra bucks for play money and split some with my son to give him a flavour of work for $$
Did a bit of processing. Figure I have a full cord of Oak. Just did the one tote today as I just found out my car has a flat tire which needs attention.
