saws in slumber, dry or full

There is quite a bit of oil, at least with red armor left in the crankcase to more than cover the 15 seconds or so of sputtering.
Side note, my son ran a full tank of straight gas through my hedge trimmer and nothing happened. Still surprised by that.

You milling?

 

No milling. I run 20:1 because I have seen what happens when 2 strokes don’t get enough oil. I have never seen a problem running 20:1. No plug problems, nothing.

I wouldn’t be surprised that there is some kind of fuel stabilizer in 2 stroke oil.

 

Some brands absolutely have it...but it will say it on the bottle/bag though too...

 

My saws run "slobbery" at 20:1...32:1 is about as (oil) rich as I will run normally...40:1 when using RA...no 50:1 for me...thats just too skinny on oil for me (no margin if something happens)

 

Mine run 40:1 also.. and IDC about EPA I care about my equipment lasting 20 years

 

I remember when the standard was 16:1. And instructions said how to use a piece of wood to scrape out the ports.

 

I'm guessing that oil ratio is protecting your engine from todays crappy fuel.

 

Wow, I haven't had good luck at ratios thicker than 32:1. I run 40:1 and store the saws as dry as possible. I put the saws away in May and get them back out in October.
Ethanol Free practically doesn't exist in California. I always add Stabil to the 5 gal jugs and I use that to fill 1 or 2.5 gal cans for mix. I don't like the mix to sit around too long.

 

Remember how you used to pull up to a gas station and the smell was......kinda forbidden and sweet and intoxicating smelling.

And now all gas smells like diesel that has gone off. Is it the ethanol or the octane improvers?

 

I buy e free for my stuff and the smell reminds me of my childhood. Put it in a glass and it looks clear. Regular from the same place has an awful smell and looks cloudy.
