The new 550 isn't on a slimmer chassis than it's predecessor. It's actually the opposite.

This could be true. The non cm 261’s I use are 1st version originals and my cm is a 3.0. I can absolutely feel a difference between the different versions. It’s not a huge difference, but noticeable to me.

Im rather well versed with Stihls and wasnt aware of 5? The 261 and 261C. Are there earlier variations and im not talking about the 026, MS260?

I have 5 261s in different configurations as far as stock and ported with different mods.

    I didn't mean there were 5 different versions of a 261.

I think you missed my point.

They make a version 2 in a standard carb ( non C ) model. Which is identical to the m-tronic model you have. The only difference is the standard carb.

Gotcha. Ive become rather well versed with Stihls in the last three years and it threw me.
Thought about getting mine ported but cant justify spending that much. If i cut a lot more than i do then of course i would.

But is there any weight difference? And if so, it can't be much. Also, is there any power difference?

I checked on a German site i frequent on the history of Stihl saws, 261C is the same as the standard carb version. Both are 50.2cc's

5! Geez, guess you gotta have a back-up for the back-up of the back-up’s back-up. And then one Justin Case. :wacky:

That's what I thought. Essentially no difference.

Well heck ! Lookey here ,a chance to spend someone else’s money ! Ireally like the 350/346 idea ! Makes a great saw . But , I’ll recommend the MS462 . I’ve got pretty much most brands of saw ,and am pretty much a Husky guy if I’m to be honest about it . But, I grab the 462 more often than not now .It’s just hard to beat for a saw that will be wearing a 20-24” bar . It’s stupid fast ,nimble ,and light . I’ve run my 562’s and the 462 back to back ,and the difference is an eye opener . To be fair , mine is ported . So, it’s apples to oranges as to power . But the feel ,and handling aren’t changed by porting ...
That’s just my opinion on the subject ,and it’s worth what was paid for it . But anyone looking for a light and nimble saw should at least handle one of these saws .

One of my 261s has a muffler mod and a timing advance. If your a percentage guy it's probably 10-15% slower than a fully woods ported 261. I don't know if that matters to you or not..

I use my ported saws for work when I'm actually getting paid. Firewood is a time to relax for me and chill out.

What? You thinking about starting a third shift? Do they make a saw with headlights?

I have atleast 2 and sometimes 3 going every day. I can't have downtime especially in our busy season.

That must come in real handy for pruning.
