    Cook on the wood stove

Do good things for others. Never know when or how that will come back, but it always does...either in favors done, benefits received, or in your good attitude and health.

I recharge phones and headlamps on my way to work.

Most prices have gone up 5-6% for most wood, pellet, and gas stoves and accessories. HHT - hearth & home technologies (Harman, Vermont Castings, and heatnglo) are going up yet another 7-8% which is getting insane!

Anyone debating on picking up a unit or parts do it now!

In the end, it's the value of the dollar that's decreasing.

Kubota is doing a price increase effective in January. Currently they aren’t saying how much and claim they don’t know how much. I honestly think it’s seeing how much everyone else goes up to stay competitive. If you order before January you can price lock even though you may not receive it until November 2022.

My BIL is considering doing an outdoor boiler install almost exactly the same as mine. We were discussing how much everything cost 3 years ago vs now....the boiler is now $5K more and the pipe is around $2/ft more.

Same thing ive done my whole life....only spend money when really necessary. Both of my parents went through the great depression and had it hard. Grew up with their frugality.
I pride myself on not wanting/needing expensive things (except maybe a chain saw :emb: or five) and am content with what i have.

Yup, a new Heatmaster G10000 and 6-700' of their best pipe (goes to 4 separate buildings) will put you over $20k, even with getting a great deal! o_O

I use bread bags to pack my sammich in for work...often the same bag the bread slice came out of...saves buying those overpriced ziploc bags...oh, and the liner bag from cereal boxes work good for packing food for lunch too. I'm not too proud to take the whole dang bag if I go to grab some chips and find the bag is almost gone...I know some people will still always put it in a smaller ziploc type bag, but that takes extra time, and money, so nope!

That's quite common in Japan. As can be use of a Kakeibo for a budget journal.

I fix whatever I can on my own, change my own oil in vehicles, heat with wood, and do many other things like this that I've always done.

Lately I've been selling things that I have no use for, but the biggest thing that I've just started was taking a job in my own town, versus in Milwaukee. What I would use in gas at 50 mile round trip, per day, will now get me 2 weeks of gas for my truck, maybe more. Should save me a couple grand a year on gas alone. There's a raise in there too, and I'll probably save more on vehicle insurance as well. Wear and tear on my truck will be less, and I'll be able to take my motorcycle to work again. With all the crazy drivers and freeway road construction on the commute I had, I wouldn't take my motorcycle to work. The bike isn't the best on gas, but it's still twice almost 3x the mpg as my truck.

not sure im totally sold on Visible as a phone service, a better device might have helped.....but 2 cell phones was only $60/$70/month. Now we have a third and each is $3/month. If we had 4, theyd be $25/month each. Our one verizon phone was $65+/month!
I havent checked out Patriot phone service yet.

We closed off the east wing on the first floor at night. That saves a lot of wood. When the bedroom in the east wing was occupied, we ran thru just over a quarter of a cord in 6 days (running the Jotul 24/7 and loading it good later at night). I bet that same wood will last a week and a half or more now.

I turned down the dehumidifier in the basement....have yet to see an electric bill though. I also wrapped the hot water tank, so perhaps that will allow it to run less. Its already on a timer.
Am looking to save for a heat pump hot water heater. Thats a really good idea.

I bought an electric shaver....despite steering away from manually operated things.
The warm water the shower uses, while shaving, will save electric in the long run.
And the second career requires clean shaven faces, so I can shave whilst driving home or to work.

I've never shaved in the shower. I actually keep a small plastic bowl for just a pinch of hot water for shaving and do that right after I shower. I also can simply get some hot water from top of wood stove which I do also for washing dishes.
