Maybe Karma, maybe not. Cut loose that spike buck yesterday and this afternoon the buck I have been chasing during our firearms week fell to the 1187. Got myself high enough in a pin oak that the scent was not pushing off the herd that was crossing the cut corn down wind from me. This buck has always come out late which has made it difficult to be in a shooting scenario. He was always last as the herd came out to feed, and that allowed the does to surround me and pick me off at times. Tonight he was in the front third of the group and nearly walked under me. I couldn't move due to the 4 or 5 does that kept catching my wind and looking for me in the trees. He nearly walked out of sight after passing within 20 yards. Finally was able to position myself and get the gun on him. 70 yards and it was perfect. The Lightfield 1.25 ounce slug passed through the chest about 3 ribs behind the shoulder blade.
Great buck! It's nice when all your patience and planning in the woods pays off. I've been hittin the woods hard for the last few weeks but things just havent worked out in my favor. Still great spending time in the stand. Im off the week of Christmas so i'll be back at it again/
