I’ve had my eye on this standing dead ash for probably a year. Finally asked and got the “go ahead” from the landowner about a week ago. Made the plan to tackle it yesterday. Figured it would take the whole day at least, and wasn’t sure if I could get it all in one trip. Got to the site at 10 am and was loaded and on the gravel road in the last picture at 6 pm. I don’t work at a feverish pace, it was a nice day to enjoy. It was a beautiful day out, sunny, upper 60s and not enough wind to tell about. Of course Tancy, my firewood beagle had to inspect my felling job. She is probably 7ft off the ground in the one picture. I could walk under the branch she is on The stump was about 34” Sunday will be splitting and stacking. This should fill my stacks and maybe then some. Might have to get something else figured out for the rest

Nice! Now i can see why you'd like to have a nice straight trunked tree. Looks like you, your pooch and the saws had a great time. Im partial to the middle saw in the third pic! Great photo ops. You should contact Husky...maybe they'll let you try some new saws and take pics. Looks like something seen in a catalog! Is the trailer a Nebraska thing? jtstromsburg has a similar one!
Lol, same thing I thought? You should not have had to waste any time sharpening chains while you were out there. Just grab a different one
I'm surprised at the size of the brush pile. Looking at the tree while it was standing it looked to be more brush than that. I just always laugh when I see so many saws to do one job. Don't think I've ever owned more than 2 at one time. When I go cutting, I usually take only one saw and no extra chains. If the chain needs touching up, it is as easy to do it in the woods as in the shed.
Great looking tree sandhillbilly! I can see why you had your eye on it for a while. The pics are great too. I like how you laid out the saws used in the pics. Looks like everyone got some recess time yesterday! However, My question is, “ do you really have to figure out what to do with the rest, or do you just not have the room for it”? Also, after working with it, how soon till it’s ready to burn, with it being dead and all? Ought to give you a lot of warmth. I like the firewood trailer too
There's a lot less brush than I had in my ash I just took care of. Then again, you know my thoughts on that. That tree was 33% bigger than the 22" that we dropped in my yard, and there's way more branches than this one. I actually burned a bit of the ash branches today. Slowly....
I got it all split and stacked on Sunday. I just meant I would have to figure how/where to stack it if it didn’t all fit in my existing racks. But it did fit. The big rounds that I had to noodle down to load had moisture readings in the mid 30s. The couple upper limb rounds I checked were around 13 so it’ll all be ready for the coming season this winter. I ended up with enough uglies to probably fill an ICBS tote halfway, I might take those to the shop at work.
Ash branches make great kindling. I need to gather some cuz this time of year is when the stove is only burned on an as needed basis. I rarely use kindling. Ash is my favorite all around fire wood. If I was only allowed one species of firewood, it would be Ash. Dries quick, starts easy, decent BTUs, and burns clean. Great score and pix. As mentioned before. I like how you leave it nicer than you found it. He'll be calling you next time.
Years ago a couple other people did some cutting on the property and left branches & brush scattered. So the first time I asked, I got a reluctant “ok, but don’t leave chit scattered everywhere like so & so did”. Never been a problem since. Now if the EAB would just get a little busier
