Well everyone has great posts if all that does not work maybe raise your price and hire some Hooter's waitresses to deliver for you I quit selling firewood years ago but nothing beats a quality product sold at a good price usually above the average it may take a season but the ones selling junk fade away fast and the ones who buy the good stuff will always pass your number on in the meantime if you do go the Hooter's waitresses I want to get on the list for a july delivery "Smaller outfits" JB
We have slowly built up a nice customer base and added several new ones this year. As stated, have a hi quality product, give a little extra. We have been mentioned several times this year on FB when someone posts looking for wood. Best of luck in the future.
Thanks Mr T.Jeff Veal. So, loaded my truck with 1/2 cord of beech and parked my truck in the garage for a repeat customer last night before another ice storm hit. Received a text from a lady who wanted a large rick early this morning. What is a large rick? Told her I could deliver 1/2 cord of awesome beech this afternoon and she said "bring it." So texted my repeat customer and asked if I could deliver Thursday. No problem he said. Her place ended up being four houses down from my 6.7 million delivery address yesterday. Word spreads faster than I thought. Her shack was 11,111 sqft on three acres in the middle of Nashville. Builder must have a good sense of humor to build to those specifications. $1,000+ a sqft is the average in surrounding area. Two indoor fireplaces, one on the back patio and a Yukon Solo stove. I need a few BuZZsaw Brads to help me with my inventory problem.
Sellers with your ethics will do well anywhere, but crush my area. I delivered about 75 cuft today eventhough 64cuft would have met the bill. I swamped their back patio with the good stuff. Wasn't happy that the beech was reading between 13-17% moisture. But think the cold wet conditions might have added a few points. It was bark-less and 17 months aged.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHI think you need a bigger truck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the compliment. We have the same mind set. To keep up with inventory, you might have to expand. The guy we got our new splitter from in Sept had built a kiln with a 40' shipping container. Spray foamed the inside, had a firebox on the end with duct work, 2 ceiling mounted fans inside and temp probes. Said he had dried oak down in a week with it. I tried to buy it too, be he was keeping it for storage. He lives in the Pigeon Forge area. That's the splitter we got.
[QUOTE="T.Jeff Veal, post: 1437003, member: 2893". That's the splitter we got. View attachment 369946 [/QUOTE] Wolf Ridge! Nice splitter. Im a lot of jealous.
I’d say it takes time to build a customer base and their trust. I thought the quality of my product would sell itself that word of mouth was all I needed. I started with one steady customer and they recommended me to a few folks. Last year I advertised on Nextdoor app in one neighborhood and got a lot of business. None of those people bought this winter. I don’t know why. Was it the higher price? I know I pizzed off one jerk that asked a lot of questions never bought than called a day before a storm wanting wood that day. Maybe he was the hoa president. This winter I expanded the Nextdoor reach and have gotten a steady business from it even though we’ve had a mild winter. I heat my house with wood so I have a take it or leave it attitude towards folks. It’s seasoned wood that’s going to burn right now. You can get cheaper wood that will burn eventually. It’s up to you. I built my inventory of seasoned wood before advertising. People seem to worry that I’ll run out, but I assure them I have enough. I also advertised on Craigslist and had one sale from it. I don’t use fb If you build it they will come.
My demand is almost to the point I don't think I'll have to advertise after this year. Since I drive 160-325 miles a day during during peak firewood season, I am stopping at gas stations frequently. I seem to always get people coming up to me asking about my firewood. And while unloading my deliveries the neighbors always come over to me. So, I usually carry an extra bundle of kindling with my name and number on it and a few sticks of my best stuff in the back seat of my truck. I just give it to them as my calling card. I might have made my afternoon customer mad this afternoon. I gave a couple walking their dog a few sticks of my white oak out of the back seat. The customer thought I gave some of his wood away, but I assured him it wasn't and I deliver 50 CUFT vice 43 anyway.
Sold two cords of beech this week 16 months aged. All three customers have reported back to me that they love it. Burns long and hot. So now I am on the hunt for more of it. White oak is my go to wood for selling.
One of today’s beech customers sent me this picture tonight and said the beech firewood was crazy good.
That's nice...you definitely need a kiln if you keep growing. We haven't advertised in several years, and sell out of seasoned wood. Getting customers to get other wood for next year now.
Having a record warmth January didnt help me. Lots of sellers around here, but i have a decent regular customer base. Some that take half cords at monthly intervals havent called yet and i lost a couple regulars. I did go up on prices across the board and only one regular declined. Wondering if this 2-3 day cold spell will get the phone ringing.
