Should be telling you something then if the lines are that undersized.

It may be nuts, but it was a game changer for firewood hoarding. The old 5hp 17ton Speeco was slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. Ffs it was killing me to make enough wood for 1 winter in the south. Now I can’t stop making firewood and have more than enough for a long time

I have been seriously thinking about going with a 3" cylinder. What kinds of wood are you splitting and does the speed make up for more time in the low flow stage?

It’s totally different than your typical store bought 2nd stage snail pace. The hp compensates to where there’s not a big difference in 2nd stage. I also increased the pressure at which 2nd stage kicks in. It’s not going to shear knots like bigger cylinders, but you learn how to break them up if you have to. I sell wood, so I know what to take and what’s better suited for termites.
I’d also add that I’m a right way vertical splitter so the technique is finely tuned and highly skilled. It’s basically an eastonmade axis on the ground.

Just looked at them, thanks Dennis. They do have a few B&S options but no real savings over Harbor Freight, not that I am a fan of HF so something to think about.
Edwin still thinks it's just water in the gas, but I will be surprised to say the least. Maybe I will drain it and see, but it sure sounded like knocking was going on inside, even just pulling it over.
At the least times like this can be entertaining for us.
Stay tuned and keep the opinions coming.

Pull the flywheel cover and look for a mouse nest inside the cowlings.

we tossed a jug and pushrods on our Briggs in the husquvarna lawnmower because of that. Mice built a nest and caused it to over heat and seize a valve bending the pushrod.

Need to look but think they may be 1/2". That's been in the back of my mind.
Thanks and will take a look next time I'm out there.

If you go 16GPM, that really only needs 8-9HP, 13HP would actually pull a 22GPM pump.

The 2 best methods I've found for keeping mice out of my tractors and mowers I keep in the big barn is, scented dryer sheets placed in or near areas where they can build nests, I put them under the hoods on the engines and in the cabs, usually on the seats. Had mice damage before and it's always expensive.

The second method involves a 'walk the plank' mouse catcher (which I use in addition to the dryer sheets. Mice love to eat and peanut butter is the 'holy grail' of mice food. I use the commercially available, fits on a 5 gallon bucket, gravity traps where they have to walk on a hinged platform to get to the peanut butter (which they never get to anyway). As they walk the plank and get close to the peanut butter, the 'plank' pivots and they drop into the bucket which I keep about a couple inches of RV antifreeze in and they meet a timely death in the bottom.

I empty the remains every spring and refill the bucket with RV anti freeze which is non toxic so disposal is easy.

Both methods have saved me a bundle over the years. I cannot use pre baited mouse stuff because my wife has cats and the cats eat the baited mice and then they die (which to me isn't all bad but I like my peaceful enjoyment of life, besides, my wife can be nasty at times).

I've disposed of hundreds of them from the bucket traps. They just keep coming. Must be very prolific breeders.

This made me  :rofl: .

I've looked at those dunking booth type mouse traps. Need to get one, had looked for them in stores, but looks like they're an online order type deal.

Yall had me thinking about replacing the pump on my north star tractor supply splitter if it makes that much difference. I think my motor is 6 hp, so that have to upgrade too... But a bit hard to justify when A) it's working and B) I don't know how to do any of that kind of stuff.

Just run it like it is if it’s working ok. When it quits we’ll walk you through the upgrade

Whatever you do, buy a HF Predator motor. I have very good results with them, the one on my pressure washer is 10 years old, never burns any oil, I just clean the air filter once in a while and run it. Still has the OEM Torch plug in it. I believe Lifan builds them for HF. Good and inexpensive motors.

You get the lid and the ramp so they can get up to the lid and a cover for the peanut butter, you supply the plastic bucket. They really work well and if you use RV anti freeze the carcasses don't smell....lol Only online I believe but there are plans online to make a home made one. Found it easier to buy a ready made one.
