Thanks for the tips/ideas. The trip is FAR from set in stone but hopefully it comes to fruition.

We did a 5 hour ferry ride from Nova Scotia to NH the kids really enjoyed it. They are much younger (6and9 yo) I also enjoyed the 5 hours and the additional 5-6 hours it cut off the time in the truck.

4 hours in the ferry or 6+ hours in the car....ferry seems like a neat adventure and you don't have to drive through Chicago. The freeways through/around that city are one perpetual traffic jam.

Yeah, I'd rather have an extra hole in my head than drive through/around Chicago..

Was just thinking the 4 hours on a boat might be a bit long for the kids. But I see you can 'hook up' to their wifi so that would keep the daughter content..

I'll reply more later, but the badger is supposed to be fixed and operational this spring. They were working on it and had the major parts on hand in November.

Most kids I've know have not been bored when on a boat!

We toured the ice breaker than served the great lakes for years. It is now a floating museum. I believe it is close to Macinaw City. It was a great tour and one of the tour guides was a fellow that used to work on it, so he knew his stuff. I would recommend it.

Well it's definitely not this year. Too warm and not enough snow

I've been to all of those except the Adventure Mine. Whitefish Point has a fantastic shipwreck museum with the original bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald. I used to keep a permanent camper on Huron Bay which is close to Mt. Arvon (highest point in MI). Plum Creek (lumber company) cut some trees for a beautiful view of Lake Superior, hope they're keeping it open. Since you'd go to Houghton/Hancock for the Quincy Mine, keep going and visit the Gay Bar (town of Gay) and keep going to Copper Harbor and drive up Brockway Mt. Drive. There's also a road that goes out to the tip of the Copper Country, an old rocket launch pad is hiding out there. Where Hwy 41 ends, keep going. A low slung car would not be a good idea. Definitely no lack of things to do. Hockey Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Yooper Tourist trap, also.

Next summer I'm going to make my first visit to Drummond Island. It's probably the only place in the UP I haven't been. Can't wait!
