Have a new one on it's way. Anyone have any hands-on experience with this one? Good ol' "Hickok45" dude swayed me towards this one, pretty impressive for a small thing. This is for the wife. She likes her LCP, but likes the G-19 better. This should be a nice "middle-ground" thing for her. She wanted a slimmer profile, I think she'll like this one. We'll see.... Anyone have one? As I was handling the gun (lc-9) a fella came over to me and said (in a whisper) that he had heard that this pistol had a recall on something to do with the trigger. So I didn't go any further. Has anyone heard anything about that? However I did see the Ruger SR-9 combat, very nice looking gun. I didn't handle it but I wanted to. I was afraid I would purchase so I let it stay in the case. They wanted $485 for that one. The regular RS-9 was $450.
Some reports of the LCP firing when dropped on a hard surface with a loaded chamber. Ruger will correct the issue if you have an older LCP, serial # 370-xxx and the hammer doesn't have a diamond stamp on it. If you see the diamond, it's the upgraded hammer and good to go.
From what I understand one of the tests that gun makers have to pass for the guns to be listed in this state is a drop test. BK, what are your thougths on Ruger pistols?
The only drawbacks(if you see them as drawbacks) with Ruger's pistols are the safety features. The loaded chamber indicator, safety's and such that can grab during a draw. Most Glock guys don't want a safety, Ruger caught up and put the trigger safety on their newer models. My neighbor has a fine Kimber 1911 ultra carry that went off in his hands last week - shot a hole through his stove, fence and fortunately missed the radiator on his Jeep by a couple feet - clipped the fender. I believe the gun has had some work done to it but he had the hammer dropped with a round in the chamber and it went off - scared him pretty good, he's been handling firearms since before Vietnam
When I handled the LC-9 today I worked the safety a bit and it was hard to move in either direction. The other thing I noticed was that the safety lever stood out against the slide enough to catch something when drawing or holstering. They were a lot less money than some of the other guns but I would have to do some more research before I make a purchase.
I prefer a PhD gun. "Push here Dummy!" My Glocks have always filled that role admirably. I've had many makes and styles of pistols over the years but I know the Glock is going to go "Bang" every time I pull the trigger.
Agreed, and today I was actually looking at some Gen 3 models at the gun show and they wanted top dollar for them. Never handled any but my son watching itching for me to get one of the Gen 3 9mm models, not sure of the model number but it seemed to be a compact from the looks of it.
I would expect the safety and other controls to be a bit stiff when new. But it's better than being sloppy. I like Ruger's firearms just fine. They may not be the most refined in certain models but they offer a good bang-for-the-buck. A quick list of past and current Rugers I've had/have- MKI, II, 10-22, Single-Six, LCP, M-85, SP-101, GP-100, 3-screw Blackhawk, NM Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Redhawk, Super Redhawk, Alaskan, Red-Label, and various centerfire rifles.
My step dad has a keltec pf9 or whatever there small 9 is. Not much bigger than the taurus 380 which is basically identical in size to the LCP. Neat gun. Probably would like the ruger as well.
I liked the size of the LC-9 when I was at the show, a little bigger than the subcompacts and a decent size for a large hand like mine. I just finished watching hickok45 and his review of this gun, it was all favorable. I might consider this as a new carry gun, the cost is reasonable and the calibre is the right size. I was looking at the 9mm gen 3 blocks new but the prices are a killer.
Glock is pricey!! Join there glock usa club or something like that and you get like $100 off a new gun if you go to the blue dealer or whatever the preferred police dealers are called. My step dad joined this club just to get the discount. He just bought his second glock its the sub compact 9mm. I am not a glock person so I forget the model number. Edit: stupid auto correct ...corrects Glock to "block or flock" I fought several but noticed I missed several. I saved Glock into the phone so I dont have to deal with that mess anymore.
