It's raining pretty steady again, it might be a day I stay inside.

We have 47 for an outside temp, your temp must be around the 50's.

Ditto on the  yesterday. I did start a fire today before I took a ride around the property, it feels great in here.

Garden probably loving the dampness but not the 61 degrees. Thing grow much better when the temperature is at least in the 70's and preferably closer to 80. But there are a few things that like the cool, but not usually that cool.

They say we'll hit 65 today with a low of 42 tonight, tomorrow we start having temps 70 and over.

Shawn Curry , there's always work when you have Pines around. We have a bunch more Pine that are down but I'll concentrate on this area and some topped off Pines to the east. The rotten pine was so bad only the ants liked it.

Ive got a couple acre stand on the east end of my property, which was originally planted by my grandfather when he was a teenager, as a windbreak for my great-grandparent's orchard. So it's been an even-age, monoculture stand - which is generally not good for pest/disease management.

I've been losing some of it to pine beetles, so I've researched some control methods. They tell you not to leave any pine slash in there during the summer months. It seems like good advice too: after learning about this, I did a careful inspection of these trees, and I did indeed find more beetle damage in the sections where I have a lot of pine slash.

When I went out to start some work this morning I decided to check on the trailer we haul the junk Pine with, it had a flat tire so I put some air in it which was coming back out.

We were going to town this afternoon but decided to go early so we could get the tire fixed and pick some other stuff up, everything got done but since I can't haul chit until Wednesday it might be another day off.

Shawn Curry you no doubt recall the large area where we cut all the pines off. There was getting to be just too much damage done so we cut most of them out but as you also probably recall we left some for wind breaks, which is why they were planted in the first place. The first of those pines were planted in 1963 and I think Judy and I plated the last of them (white pine) back in around 1980 but it could also have been 10 years earlier. I do recall the white pines had some problems getting started. Which just reminded me that yes, I remember our youngest son left home in 1982 and most of those white pine were only about 3-4' high. Then suddenly about a year or 2 later they just really started to grow. But we learned something as we planted them too close together. But we live and learn.

We have a few more trees that have died and we will need to get those out of there.

I was thinking today of all the smaller dead or topped off White Pine on our lot that needs to come down, I can think of about forty to fifty that will come down.

I should get it done by the end of August.

Well, white pine really smells great when you cut it and that is a plus.

I took one load of rotten pine to the town wood dump so I think another load and this area will be cleaned up.

The pollen from the white pines was crazy today, it looked like smoke coming from the trees.

I'll be chipping up the smaller stuff on the ground.

I did get back in this area to work on cutting up the downed chit, I would cut up on and find two more underneath but most of it is done.

The plans are to haul the bigger stuff to the town wood dump in a few days.

I hauled one load to the town wood dump, most of the stuff left on the ground is smaller.

I get a pick after lunch.

Not much left but some chipping, pic 0147 is what I started with and 0176 is what it looks like tonight. The other pic is what I took to the wood dump.

I do have some topped of trees that will come down that hopefully we can use for firewood.

I did chip up the branches in pic 0176 in post 35, I'll throw some pics up after I go get the picture taker.

Some of the stuff in the background that isn't chipped will go to our wood dump.

It sure does, I think it's been a great investment.

I'll be doing an oil change on it in the morning.
