DONE. I do mine mid summer. Never much in there, but like to err on the safe side and clean both of them every year. Good neighbor story. A few years ago late one winter night, I looked out my window and saw a lotta sparks flying out the neighbors chimney. Called him and he quickly shut 'er down. Next day I asked him when was the last time he cleaned his chimney. Clean the chimney? Says he.
Will check/ clean mine soon as my lower back problems don't cause me to fall off the roof! Should be ok- I too like to let the summer sun weaken any glazed creosote in the top 3-4 feet of the chimney. That portion is subject to crazy temp differences mid winter, and always gets a glaze (few potato chips) regardless of MC in the firewood.
oh its cleaned.. no pics but when you got to take out stove pipe for Woodstove swap out it makes stupid not to clean it!!
Had a pro do mine this past weekend. I wanted a pro since it was my first year burning. After seeing him do it I will be doing it from now on. The guy said I burn better than 95% of his clients!! I credit that to all of you here... Thanks for guiding us newbies!
Just had a call from my insert/liner installer asking when/if I wanted to schedule a sweep and inspection. When he did it last fall, there was maybe a coffee cup full of dust that came out of 35' of 6" SS liner. I'm thinking of just buying a kit and doing it myself, have him come do an inspection every few years, one cleaning and inspection from him pays for everything I need to do it my self, less an ash vacuum. He joined a national chain of chimney sweeps, so his prices went up. It was his idea for me to do my own and him inspect every so often.
Cleaned ashes out of the stove and made fire I'll be giving the stove n pipe the once over sometime here in next couple weeks
No doubt you'll find you really don't need him. In well over 50 years, we have yet to hire anyone to do the simple task that we can easily and quickly do. In fact, it is so easy I have not done it for many years. My wife does it!
Cleaned both of mine back in the spring @ the end of the burn season. Also gave the stoves alotta love @ the same time. Ready to fire off when the time comes...........................
I cleaned it but it was a complete waste of time. Dry wood. Hot fires. Modern stove. I'll probably do it again this year and probably find it pointless again. Still better safe than sorry.
Its on the list of things to do I might get to it this weekend but Im doubtful. I will do it before the stove gets fired up.
I figure a 1-1/2month before burning season so my next stretch off will sweep and order a few bits for the door handle, or make a new bushing and replace the setscrew. For those that sweep the end of season and then inspect again prior to burn season - why do things twice? outside of a crazy surprise(separated spiral liner) makes no sense to clean twice
I only clean once a year and I agree, why do things twice. I don't do anything prior to burning season. After I clean it, it's ready to go, whenever. It could very well be that I'm to drunk to see your point, it happens.
