Wow. Yeah it is definitely the responsibility of the one cutting to make sure they have the right to be there. We have lots of government land or "crown" land that we can cut on for free but its up to us to know where these parcels are.

That is why I won't buck or split any more than I can load out. If it is bucked and split, 100% of the time it will be gone by the next day, maybe even by the time I'm back the same day. If it is only bucked up, about 80% chance it will be gone. If you leave only logs there is still a good chance that it will be gone but not everyone has a chainsaw. When I was a construction Supt. we were doing the preliminary clearing and I had some trees bucked and loaded in a dump truck. Monday morning the trucker arrived very early and headed for the company owners house to dump. He got about two blocks and realized the truck felt light. Someone had stolen the wood right out of the dump box over the weekend .

Yes Indeed! Nowadays they would hotwire and steal the truck. Dump the load at their place, then send the truck out to be chopped!

I was up fishing today and took the truck in case there was more wood. I ran into the county guys this morning and they told me what time they'd be done. So I called my dad and told him when & where to meet me. We were parked and waiting like vultures when the tree crew quit. Wow, just left on the shoulder like that, all bucked up! You PNW scoungers impress me as being pretty ruthless, so I'm guessing it wouldn't have stayed there long, if you and your dad hadn't snatched it up. Two trucks are better than one!

Just wait until the county guys figure out that they don't have to buck it up into chunks like that...….I still can't believe it! Must have a lot of time and money in the budget!

Great score-better than the first one!!!

I think they're just bucking it up to sizes they can move off the road. I was told "I can't give you permission to take it, but I'm not saying don't take it either." So maybe they're bucking it so the public will clean it up.

We went back again this afternoon. Word has gotten out. We were there with our two trucks when the crew quit for the day. One truck was already loaded and leaving, and three others showed up in the 20 minutes we were there. It's amazing how so much wood can disappear so fast. The truck that beat us there was returning for another load as we left. IMG_20190129_150330566~2.jpg IMG_20190129_162108263.jpg
With my wood storage more than maxed out, and my work schedule, today was my last load from this spot.

I love my hookaroon more every time I use it. I was trying to take the shorter rounds yesterday and with the hookaroon it was as easy as stabbing the round I wanted, dragging it to the truck, and swinging it into the bed.

Washington allows you to cut in selected state lands but you need a permit AND a recreational permit. Fortunately neither will set you back much.

Thank you. She's quite a character. She has been out in the woods a few times during grouse season, but it's just been hiking with a shotgun.
