It's good to see them protecting the trees but it also means some heavy duty excavating will be going on.
Mass DOT should have the plans on their website if it is a state road.

Looks like they may be standard studs secured with metal strapping, like on bundles of lumber, built on site? Doesn't mean they didn't pay someone a pretty penny to build them, though. ;) At least they're making an effort to take care of the trees. I've never seen that before, either.

 for the effort. I'd be keeping an eye em and seeing how many got tore up.

Yeah I didn't look too close at the actual "build quality". I first thought they were built off-site with rope running thru the 2x4s. 5ft, 10ft, 15ft, ect cut to size on site. Couple hundred bucks each.

There's project info on the mass.gov site, DOT.

Not a lot of specific details, nor dates.

I do have contact information of some people that paid us a visit in '25. I think I'll reach out to them.

They showed up with separate 2x4's. Nothing put together ahead of time.

They'd lean the 2x4's against the trunk. Using a rope with a loop at one end They'd pull it tight to hold them in place whine adjustments were made. A rachet strap came next, removing the rope. Metal bands were wrapped and cinched. Ratchet strap removed and on to the next one.

They wrapped a big white pine that looks like 20 2x4's were used. I haven't counted yet.

There might be an opportunity for a different kind of wood scrounging when those things come down. They won't be straight anymore, but still...

Did they widen the easement from original? Around here everything is 15' from center *except State routes and they can be 20-60' I think, depending.

Hopefully they won't be digging all the roots off the road side of those trees...might kill some of them in the long run...

Those are red maples, aside from the one EWP.

An aborist was here months ago . I kept pointing out rot in the trees and suggested they be taken down. He differed. Oh well.

    Not that I know of.

I did come to understand that the double yellow line, isn't necessarily the center of the roadway.

This is a Ma state highway.

And concrete storm drains showed up.
    IMG_20260828_072334.jpg

I met the foreman on the project the other day. He said he'd try to give us a 2-3 day heads up before major activities that'll affect us.
