I think the vast majority of firewood sellers are going to go up. If there fuel costs go up it'll be passed on to the end consumer.

Pretty much all consumables are going to go up because of the current fuel prices.

I miss the $2/gallon I was paying a few years ago

I read that out of every 55 gallon drum of crude oil, only *about* 20 something gallons gets refined into gasoline. The rest gets broken down into various compounds that go into pretty much EVERYTHING we buy. Plastics, fertilizers, all sorts of everyday items. So when crude is through the roof, not only are we getting shafted buying goods with higher logistics costs passed onto us, but also because of the cost of the raw materials/chemicals that go into them. Add to that more printing of currency, which devaluates the dollar further, and the whole system becomes a runaway train heading one direction.

Per this thread I picked up another gallon at TSC today for 11.99.
Also picked up some Poulan pro premix at 5.99 which seemed cheap to me but I never buy premix. This was a whim.

The problem I had last year after bumping prices with one buyer & a couple of buyers of summertime campfire wood is : “Well you shouldn’t be charging more, that wood has been sitting there for a couple years so you cut it with cheaper fuel.”
One guy said “ You are just like Walmart by raising your prices. “

I am sure it will be more of the same this year but as I told them: “Feel free to buy your firewood somewhere else this is just a side gig to me. Casey’s & Hy-Vee sell bundles & there are always a host of folks selling firewood on the local radio station & local papers, I am sure it is nice & dry after being cut/split for a couple hours, days or weeks. I don’t advertise you called me remember.”

Was I rude? Maybe. Crude, yes but I got my point across. I am sure this year will be more of the same after I raise my prices again this year.

    $150 half cord
    $300 full cord
    Plus delivery

All of us will be when they release the reserve fuel! (sorry, couldn't resist). Yeah, cutting wood is romantic and not work to them buying it to go camping and gaze into the flames with their camper and truck that total over 60,000 bucks and you shouldn't make a dime?? Today's mentality at work.

That’s a lot of cutting. A barrel would last me probably 10 years

Same here. I figure bar oil usage is half of mix usage. I mark the date on the 2 gallon mix can every time i fill it. Averages six weeks. I normally buy a gallon as i need it.

So how much gas/oil in cutting a cord of wood? I’ve never measured, but I know I burn quite a bit less than 5 gallons per my annual 8-10 cord.

I posted this in another thread on here & on OPE Forum, so some of you have seen it. I had my chance at buying a tote but couldn’t justify buying 275 gallon or 330 gallon, the $2700 price tag for 275 gallon was just a bit out of my wheel house.

They priced bulk delivered oil to me @ $10.14 gallon but I got a 55gallon drum or two :whistle:for less. When you folks start running dry we can probably work something out.

Besides you bunch of enablers, mainly yooperdave & Chvymn99 got me to buying other stuffs but I digress.

Here’s my post from the other day :

I just got off the horn with the MFA oil lab in Moberly. I had some questions about their bar oil.

1.) Shelf life ? Fella said after about 5 years the tackifier may start to separate but a good shake of the jug or stir of the barrel would take care of that.
The reason I inquired is, I read on one of the spec sheets for another bar oil ( I can’t recall the brand ) the shelf life was 2-3 years.

2.) Whether it was virgin oil or filtered used oil with tackifier added ? He said that theirs is always virgin oil. They occasionally use older hydraulic oil & use hydraulic oil from damaged containers then add the appropriate tackifiers to get their blend correct.

The fella also told me that they could blend up smaller batches thicker or thinner per customer preference.

He then said they could deliver in bulk with thetank wagon using 275 gallon or 330 gallon totes. I told him that wasn’t really in the cards for me.

Very nice, helpful & informative fella.
