What do you think? After researching the Kuma and discovering how efficient with long burn times they are, I stopped in at the dealer 50 miles from me. Due to the $800 shipping to Ca. for the IS, the Kuma(Ashwood) is $550 less than the IS. Both with ash pans but the Kuma doesn't have the soapstone. Also, the dealer will deliver the Kuma to my house. I would have haul the IS home from a delivery dock. From what I'm learning, the stoves are closely matched in quality and CS.
Both great companies from what I’ve read. I thought most here had Kuma wood furnaces though. I trying to remember who ..
Yes, two totally different companies...Kuuma furnaces are made in Tower Minn. by Lamppa MFG...Kuma stoves are made in Idaho, or Washington, something like that...both small family owned companies...supposed to be top quality.
On a whim, I called the Blaze King dealer and he quoted me $300 more than the Kuma, $250 less than the IS with shipping for a Sirocco 30. I went for it. I feel good about my decision.
I have been using a Sorocco 20 for several years. Sweet stove. If you havn't had a BK before you will likely be amazed at the nice easily controlled heat output and crazy long burn time. Update your post as your install progresses.
Unfortunately, kuma only makes little stoves. Nothing equivalent to the bk30 or the IS. Maybe they will change that someday.
Interesting. I'm pretty sure they used to have at least one model that used 8" pipe. But their site now shows everything using 6" with their biggest firebox being 2.5cf. I wonder if the new emissions standards are to blame.
I believe you may be correct in that the current standards eliminated the large stove they had offered. For now. Might be worth asking them if they intend to re-introduce this model. Sequoia Wood Stove and Fireplace from Kuma Stoves
Yup, basically two fireboxes to pay for testing with different shells for each for a total of <6 models> ? I don't think they sold enough of the Sequoia model to put time into it at least for right now.
