I am officially hired on at the landscape company I applied for. Not the wage I requested, but they offered $3 more per hour than any other applicants he told me. It seems that most who apply, promise the world, and don't know how to operate a shovel. If I show a good work ethic, he said more responsibility and more pay was definitely possible. I start monday wildwest
Thank you all! I'm getting all my work stuff outta both of my trucks since I'll be in a company truck now. I found and paired up 23 pairs of gloves that are usuable. Threw away another 7 that were trashed. 3 sets of gore tex rain gear. Over $500 in gloves and gore tex alone. Hoard much? Lmao
Congrats on the new job. I would be careful how much business you do out of work hours. If the new boss finds out, he might not be pleased at you taking business away from them. If there is a slowdown, you might be the first to be cut.
Tomorrow is day one at the new gig. Low and behold, my personal ope dealer literally just posted an opportunity. Service writer and warranty claim guy. I applied and got an interview in less than an hour from the job posting. On a freaking Sunday! Is quitting on week one bad form? Lol. I'd give 2 weeks, and still work hard, but man I will feel bad if I get put in that position. 2 apps. 2 Interviews. Whoever says they can't find work isn't looking.
Well, either way, good luck! I've only had one short term job...I was there a week or two and I realized pretty quickly that I HATED it. The boss calls me in his office about a month in and says things are working out really well so they are gonna cut my probation short, send me to school and buy me a new service truck...I knew right then and there I was gonna hafta tell him how I felt...and it was just plain hard! I had all but made up my mind to go back to an old job...which he told me is always a bad idea...turns out he was right...but its all good, that was just part of the broken road that got me to where I am now. Not everybody has your resume though either...
HA!!! I knew it!! Congrats!! I still have no doubt you will continue to get competing offers from other places that know your value and worth ethic. Period. Yep. Make your best guesstimate weighing pay vs stress in the office & other workers. I made supply deliveries to multiple companies for many years and I could tell the places where employees were valued and liked working there vs the hard companies to work for where the employees were stressed out and not really happy. And, Employee turnover is a good signal to be wary too. And do not bother putting this job on your resume for the short time (in my industry anyway, more like months and years missing is the black mark), likely the same with yours. Landscape place knows your worth, offering more $$ than most, and also likely knew you would be recruited by others....... TRUE.
That's great news. No it's not bad form. Remember, you have to look out for yourself. Nobody else will.
Quality Manager we hired was done after 6 weeks. Got a better offer, from a better company four weeks after he started. He did give two weeks notice and they let him finish those out. But, don't expect that from a brand new employer - don't be surprised if they just say "get out now".
Is the 2 week notice really necessary? I used to think it was in good taste but changed my mind over time. One thing that really changed my mind was one time I applied for a job and told the fellow I wanted to give my employer a 2 week notice. But he wanted me to start the next morning. He asked me bluntly: "If your employer was going to get rid of you, would he give you a 2 week notice?" My answer to that was, "What time do you want me here tomorrow morning?" And he was right. If an employer wants you to stop working, he says so and you are done. So it is not bad form for you to do the same thing. After all. Like someone stated, you have to look out for yourself.
