fordf150 so sorry to hear about your dads illness. If he wasn't in the VA system prior to the diagnosis, I've heard it can be a royal pain to get into the system and get things approved. Wife and I have been in VA for years, and due to issues she was hospitalized twice, and it would have bankrupted us if it weren't for the VA. She's not necessarily happy heading to Buffalo for treatments, but it can be dealt with.

On a brighter note, your building is looking good.

I think my dad is getting into the system. I told him he needed to a year or two ago and I think he told me he was meeting with them to get signed up.

It's hard for us to think of our parents as getting older especially when they first start getting to the age where they have trouble . My dad is getting to his middle sixties and I want us to have the option if need be for care if he needs it. That and prescriptions.

last may or june he signed up, they have yet to even give him his first hearing or whatever. I think they are just dragging their feet, we were told last week that if he passes before its approved none of the benefits apply and as of right now they owe $30k in back payments plus all the medical bills. We have a lawyer that has started working to apply pressure but he said nothing serious can really be done until they review his case for the first time and deny it.

he is in isolation right now, infection of some sort and he has been getting some kind of high dose radiation....doesnt look good but over the last few weeks we have gotten most of his affairs in order for when the time comes. right now he is so weak he cant hardly get out of bed but all he can think about is that the old washing machine in the basement needs carried out and he found out part of the barn roof blew off in this wind we have had so he is all worried about us getting the new roof on before it rains

Seems to vary from VA to VA. I retired from the military and from the VA. Never sought care there until 2013. It took a year to get service connected, but no time at all to get routine care. Now I get everything I need there and have no complaints. Everyone there treats me well. I am an RN so I do know what good or bad treatment is.

Many, many years ago, campinspecter spent a summer at Lincoln City in Oregon. The highlight of the summer was the roller skating rink where all the teens hung out. Five years ago, we made a trip back there and we were went looking for the old building. We ended up at the local museum where the curator (90+ of age) told us to go the the Ace Hardware store. Their plumbing department was in the old building. Apparently lots of people would stop by to see the building and take pictures of the floor. And so we did. Beautiful wood floor.

I am glad you are planning to restore the old floor in the future.

Woodwidow I am glad its in good enough shape to refinish, saved me tons of money and will add allot of character to the building. I am leaving everything unchanged from its current condition other than sanding the paint off and putting it back to a natural finish. Every patch, dent, ding, hole, or splintered out chunk will be jsut as it was when people were skating on it. I have enough extra good flooring to salvage that i could repair the showroom floor to pristine condition but i decided all the wear and abuse would add charm to it.

I think you are right about keeping the "character" of the floor. Pristine condition won't have a history to tell.

its moving along nicely, wish it was a little faster tho....I cant get into that bigger building fast enough.

lastnite there was 4 of working on it....2 hanging the remaining drywall and 2 inexperienced guys slinging mud......I am paying 1 guy to do the work and he is suckering his buddies inito stopping by to BS while he works and then sticking a banjo in their hand while they are there to "teach" them how to do drywall. kinda brilliant on his part.

I agree. A lot of taping and mudding. It is going to look good when you get it painted.

just a couple updates....taping/mudding is going but they arent getting in any hurry about it. I have had so many things going on that i havent been out there to do much in the last few weeks other than stop in to check on progress of the guys finishing. will get some pics next time i am out there.

just a little update on the VA battle as well. they finally came thru with paper work, almost exactly 1 year after the initial filing but its a little to late to do any good, step dad was sent home today and hospice was called in.

    Sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately, it comes to that at some point in time. Doesn't make it any easier though.
Be there for the ones you love, it's all you can do sometimes.:tears:
