Red oak vs White oak dry time

    White oak is definitely denser than red oak, but I've often wondered if "time of year" plays a part, especially dealing with oaks. Seems to me oaks cut down this time of year have more moisture locked up in them than in the summer months....

    This is all just in theory, of course. But I cut a ton of oak year round and it seems much heavier in late winter/early spring than it does in the summer or late fall....

    As for any real-world testing, all of my oak sits C/S/S (top-covered) for 4-6 years, so it all seems about the same when I go to burn it.

    And yes, it burns amazing after seasoning that long....

    Ok, seems like I am jumping the gun on this one. I keep reaching for a few splits hoping they will burn well. I have a few row that should be prime for burning next season. It's a shame because there is nothing better than getting perfect splits from nice straight oak.
