Eh, it's the hand splitting, and lack of hydraulics certainly.

    Just giving you razzberries.:salute:

I don't blame you. Also you have to leave some wood in the forest. You've seen/read the Seuss Lorax story.;)

I think I’m getting a little snobbish. Years back we took every scrap and dealt with it. Caught myself today looking at a log and figuring where to cut the branch knots out. Never would have done that before.

With all those night straight knot free trunks youve scrounged its bound to happen. Depends how bad the knots are too. We've gotten spoiled for sure.
Back in November i cut all the primo knot free logs from white oak and hickory, left the rest roadside at the score. I dont have a problem with nuglies, but at five cord its getting to be a bit much.

I'm thinking many think of their back when passing up large rounds. Pros and cons to large diameter wood, but if I had my druthers I would have nothing but 10" rounds. One pass with the 4 way wedge and your done.

For sure the back come into play but reading the many posts on this forum and others leads me to believe that many seem to think they need as large of a bar as the diameter of the tree. They'd probably crap to see some of the trees I have dropped and cut up with short bars.

I split most of the second load today and stacked. Couple logs left to noodle.
First pic is empty last row ready for splits and second is after. Still need a bit more oak to finish. Sections to the right atre sugar maple waiting to be split. They'll go elsewhere. IMG_1845.JPG IMG_1846.JPG
