The other BIG advantage of the TT20 is that you can replace the battery. In some other tachs the battery cannot be changed out. I have had a TT20 for I dunno, 6 or 7 years now? Still works like a champ. It comes with wires, but I have never needed them. I do not think that I even have the wires for it any more. Never used them, likely never will. I got mine direct from DTI for $85 shipped, I think it was. 50 or 60 saws later...

    That's too funny !!!
I purchased one like that many years back, it was my first tach, what a POS

Now I use the DTI that SquareFile linked for all around shop use on everything 2 and 4 stroke.

If I want to mount a tach on a piece of equipment, I get the Hardline, same as Hammerhead linked. I have about a dozen of them on different things from bikes to my snowblower, including some of my saws. I don't tune 2 cycles with any tach, but its great to have mounted as it will show hours of use or RPM ........... something I need both of on my snowblower

So I take it that the TT-20K has to use cables? Or am I wrong in that assumption? I was looking at the Fast tech too and it was showing max RPM recall on it? I kinda of was liking the smaller size of the Fast Tech.

The TT can be wireless or use wires
Fast tach does not even hold a candle to the TT.
    My fast tach collects dust

How far away can you hold it when using it? Or how do you hold it, cause it appears to be a bit bigger... Causing watching MasterMech use his Stihl one looked handy while holding it basically in the web of his hand.

The TT is accurate @ 8" - 10". You can go closer, but she starts picking up about 12" - 14"

The fast tach ?? sometimes its wonky no matter where you hold it, even with a new battery. Mine used to work fine, but one day it decided to be wonky and never changed its mind

Mine (TT20k) needs to be pretty close - maybe 3-4" for it to get an accurate reading. I just hold it in the same hand that I have on the wrap handle.

I never paid attention to how close either. But I'm still using my edt5.

I do like you, in my left hand on handle while tuning etc. Couldnt get much easier unless you use a clamp or velcro.

Just to be clear, it does not need the cable for a single spark engine - it is wireless. The cable is used if you are looking at engine rpm with multiple cylinders. Otherwise it would pick up the pulse from the other adjacent spark plug leads.

I've got a Fast Tach, works great. If you get a reading bouncing all over, it's Mr. Rev Limiter kicking in.

I have had saws I thought they were 4 stroking when it was the rev limiter.o_O
