I hear ya got to get that wood seasoned quick for next year with less than 5% moisture. The dryer should make it happen. Just make sure you put some duct tape on the door to keep it closed. Maybe the stickers react the same as shrink wrap. Put one on the top cover, toss it in the dryer, and wa-lah! you got a custom sized saw sticker lol I've got wood all over the yard also. Got to get out there maybe in the morning and make it look a little neater. Got 4 separate piles (maple & poplar, green red oak, green white oak, and 1 1/2 year seasoned red oak). Got to get some organization going instead of piles. Think tomorrow I'll have to make time cause the final 4 has taken my time this evening. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Been slammed with work this month and having to upkeep equipment in my spare time. Finally got a little white oak split this evening. Maybe 3/4 of a cord. Felt nice to be back splitting again Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Looks like all splitting has been put on hold. The low pressure system that came through East NC has flooded parts of Rocky Mount & Wilson. Drug the splitter out from the water and got to get it dried out so no more damage will be done than already has been done. Loosing quite a bit of wood to the river but hopefully I can recover some of it. I sure hope no one else here in the community was effected by this system. While I was down there the water came up about 10" in less than 2 hours. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I'm hoping the river will finally crest today and start going down so I can see what all got washed downstream and start building back up. Its tough but you have to endure through life's hardships to enjoy the good portions Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Haven't posted up in a while but I snapped a few pics this evening. In the past couple months I have done some revamping on equipment and repairing what got flooded and been helping my parents out after my mother got diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. She is on the mend now and gotten the radiation over but will be on oral chemo for while to come. Cancer has been eliminated though so we have all been thankful for that. Anyway I rebuilt my log splitter mainly all new seals throughout (except for the hydro pump) and found a new spot for the filter away from the ground or where debris could easily hit it. Quite a few hours have gone into that but well worth the effort. It needed some tlc after being under 5 1/2' of water. Did some tuning in the saw carbs, reprofiled a few axe edges, and finally started re-establishing my hoard of firewood. Gotten about 2 cords split up in the past 3 weeks but steadily been picking back up on my pace now that works is slowing down for the winter. Been stocking up for the cold coming this way. Lows in the teens means wood is going to be flying off the stacks haha. I hope everyone has been doing well and had a good holiday season. Looks like I got quite bit of catching up to do. I'll post up a few pics below on the progress from this evening. Got a good bit of hickory split up, some maple/young white oak cut into 18" logs, and a good bit of kindling split up. The maple & young white oak was left beside of the interstate after the state decided to do some clearing on an exit ramp. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Sorry to hear about your mom, but glad she is on the mend... Nice grab on the side of road... Looks like some nice handling wood you got....
jfhrtn good tip on placing the axe in the back cut while keeping an eye towards the top limbs. Great pictures by the way and keep those deer fed. Lol
jfhrtn I figured that's what you were leaving stumps for. Since your doing what the contractors wanted this is a great way for a future call to do more cutting. I see that your looking at a chainsaw mill, I'm not sure on the prices but ever look into some of the smaller bandsaw mills. You will get a whole lot more lumber out of the bandsaw mills.
We really need to get this cold snap to break so you can venture outside and have something to do other than feeding the stove and searching for meme's lol
I was hoping to take a walk around my woodlot and see how the deer were fairing. The loggers haven't been cutting in over a week with Xmas and this brutal cold weather. I know there's several hitches on the ground so the deer should have some good browse, hopefully there's some cedar in some of those hitches.
Chvymn99 M2theB I appreciate the thoughts on my mother and it was definitely some good handling wood. It was still soaking wet but it is perfect a perfect size to move around without having to worry about my knees. Woodslave the same contractors from last season gave me permission to go out to 4 more lots this year. I went and scouted them out and I didn't see many trees above 8-10". Had one hickory at 14" but going to have a lot of smaller diameter wood if I go out and grab some of them. I haven't looked at the band saw mills but I will certainly look into them. Got a feeling they might run 1k+ for a good one but that is just a guess for now. You feeding the deer on your lot also? I've got a decent 5 pointer that I've got on camera. Been watching him about 2 weeks now. Midwinter uh oh the Ents are the elders of the forests. I'll have to watch my back and keep my ears open for whispers haha. I don't think I'd be cutting much in that forest you posted up. Maybe just clearing the dead on the forest floor since that is what they would be gracious enough to give me. You are right on not drinking and priming. That can get you trouble quick. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Winter storm Grayson came through and put a good layer of snow over the whole wood lot. Going to see if I can't uncover everything this afternoon. Burned about a 1/2 cord in the past 6 days in 2 fire places. Also sold a face cord to a customer from last season. Hoping to get 2-3 more cords split and stacked by next weekend. I'll post up some pics of the snow down on the lot along with a 7 pointer I caught on camera before the snow. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
